We introduce trans-boundary pollution in a two country – one good mixed oligopoly model and investigate the effect of privatization on environment and trade. We find that although privatization raises environmental tax which remains below marginal damage, tariff may or may not increase. Finally, strategic trade-off between environmental policy and trade policy may or may not hold.

Factors Influencing Consumer Wine Choice: The Case Of Wine Tourism, Margaret Connolly

This research was undertaken to examine the relationship between the wine tourism activities of consumers and their subsequent wine choices. Exploratory research was undertaken giving specific attention to wine tourism, first, as a factor of influence on decision-making, second, on levels of consumer involvement and third on long-term consumer loyalty. A convenience sample of 12 wine consumers in Dublin participated in the study. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were used to gather the qualitative data used. The findings clearly establish links made by consumers between their wine tourism experiences and their subsequent wine purchase preferences. The findings highlight the importance of facilitating …

Prenatal Stress And Birth Weight: Evidence From The Egyptian Revolution, Ronia A. Hawash

The Egyptian Revolution that ignited in January 2011 resulted in intense violent conflict between protestors and former regime allies. This generated a significant amount of fear and stress among people who lived in proximity to such events. We use this exogenous shock as a natural experiment to test the causal relationship between prenatal stress and birth weight. Governorate-level fatalities resulting from this conflict will be used as an exogenous indicator for prenatal stress. Using fixed effects and difference-in-difference analysis, results show that higher prenatal stress resulting from political conflict during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy has a …

Previous research shows that individuals make systematic errors when judging exponential growth, which has harmful effects for their financial well-being. This study analyzes in how far individuals are aware of their errors and how these errors are shaped by arithmetic and conceptual problems. While arithmetic problems could be overcome by employing computational assistance like a pocket calculator, this is not the case for conceptual problems, a term we use to subsume other error drivers like a general misunderstanding of exponential growth or overwhelming task complexity. In an incentivized experiment, we find that participants strongly overestimate the accuracy of their intuitive …

The Influences Of Locus Of Control, Debt, And Framing On Retirement Contributions, Bryan Foltice, Patrick Ilcin

This study evaluates locus of control, debt, and framing effects as potential drivers of retirement savings decisions. We administer an online survey analyzing how much an individual will save for retirement upon graduating college. The study finds that individuals with an external locus of control contribute significantly less to their retirement savings than individuals with an internal locus of control. Interestingly, this study finds no significant relationship between debt overhang and initial contributions. This essay evaluates the state of regulation by the United States government and State legislatures of participants in emerging virtual-currency businesses. It points to friction points as both the federal government and the States experiment with their own regulatory authority over virtual-currency businesses and provides a taxonomy of differing approaches to regulating such businesses. The essay takes the position that the States need to act in the near term if they wish to maintain their longstanding role as regulators of non-depository providers of financial products and services—or they risk being preempted by Congress or federal regulatory actions. This study explores the antecedents and consequences of firm's artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. Based on technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and institutional theory, I propose that technological opportunism, top management support, customer orientation, and normative pressure are the main antecedents lead to firm's AI adoption. According to firm's different strategic types, this study added that prospectors are most likely to adopt AI, followed that analyzers, defenders, and reactors.
