Although scholars have enhanced our understanding of online payment systems (OPSs), our literature review shows that extant research has not fully addressed the way in which scholars have conceptualized OPSs and what roles organizations have played in establishing the OPSs. This study reviews the literature on OPSs and synthesizes the definitions of OPSs. This study also discusses the theoretical and practical implications of the roles of regulators, service providers, and technologies. Using the literature review method, we analyze the definitions of online payment systems from perspectives of academics, regulators, and practitioners. Although the topic of a firm’s network centrality has received significant attention in the literature, little is known about the theoretical concepts behind closeness centrality. This study reviews the definitions of closeness centrality that have been proposed by researchers. This research also provides a proposition about how a firm’s closeness centrality influences its supplier firm’s performance in a supply chain context. Our findings show that extant research has viewed closeness centrality as one of the following dimensions: the distance to other firms, the number of links to other firms, and the level of embeddedness. Immigration is emerging as a potent and visible policy tool at the disposal of policymakers seeking to increase economic development through entrepreneurship. However, it is less clear if immigration has the same role in developing countries. In the first essay, this study investigates the crowdfunding platform. This study uses a deep neural network to extract the emotion metrics from the project images on the crowdfunding platform. Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) launched a new electronic health record (EHR) in a “big bang” implementation that saw the new software go live across multiple hospitals, clinics and geographic locations in a single morning. The organization rightly focused most of its energy on preparing its nearly 25,000 employees for the impacts of the transition, but it also considered the effects that would be felt by its patients and families. Who’S Got My Back? Comparing Consumers’ Reactions Topeer‐Provided And Firm‐Provided Customer Support, Lan Jiang, Matthew O'Hern, Sara Hanson

This study demonstrates that when an individual encounters a product‐related problem, fellow consumers (i.e., one’s peers) have a unique advantage in providing social support to the affected consumer. Specifically, we find that social support can be a dominant driver of consumer satisfaction when the risk of customer defection is at its highest (i.e., following an unsuccessful attempt to solve the consumer’s problem). Using real‐world data from an online support community, a pilot study finds that if the problem that a consumer faces goes unsolved, satisfaction is greater when consumers receive peer‐provided versus firm‐provided support. For more than a decade we, as academic researchers, have investigated the experience of small business customers seeking financial products for their businesses. We have employed a variety of research methodologies to explore the “lived” experiences of small business owners seeking financing, including matched-paired mystery shopping, video ethnography, depth-interviews, controlled experiments, and surveys. From this research, we show that with limited financial sophistication, entrepreneurial small-business consumers approach the financial marketplace much more like retail financial consumers than sophisticated, corporate customers. Although experts are valuable assets to organizations, they suffer from the curse of knowledge and cognitive entrenchment, which prevents them from being able to adapt to changing situational demands. In this study, I propose that experts’ performance goal orientation resulting from pressures to perform contributes to their flexibility, but this mechanism can be moderated by learning goal orientation and humility. Data from a small sample of healthcare professionals suggested that performance goal orientation partially explained the mechanism of why experts may be inflexible. Humility, both as self-report and other-report measures, was found to be the most consistent moderator of this …

Within the occupational stress literature, researchers have often identified stressors as being inherently challenging or hindering, based on previous classifications or on the outcomes usually associated with each. Although the challenge-hindrance model is based on the transactional theory of stress (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984), which emphasizes the importance of an individual’s cognitive appraisal of stimuli, much of the research on this framework has failed to measure an individual’s direct appraisal of stimuli in the environment as challenging, hindering, and threatening, which can be problematic when attempting to understand and predict occupational stress.
