Research shows that “empathy” is an important quality in a leader and improves one’s ability to resolve group needs, obtain followers, perform prosocial behaviors, and get positive results. However, many business students do not recognize the value of empathy. Business schools can help improve this by teaching the importance of empathy and giving students the opportunity to develop it.

The balancing act of contemporary life can be exhausting. Rarely is rewarding work, deeply satisfying relationships, and rejuvenating self-care tied up in a package and delivered on your doorstep. Sandholtz, Derr, Buckner, and Carlson, ask the question, “Has life for the dedicated post-modern careerist been reduced to ‘You’re born, you juggle, then you die?’” Hopefully, that is not the pre-destined fate of all contemporary adults.

In this issue of Marriott Student Review, our authors explore the balancing act of business professionals who teeter between relationships and work, as well as success and failure in their external and internal lives.

Сivil society has many dimensions, among which the economic component is particularly prominent. In this regard, one of the most urgent tasks remains to find answers to the questions of influence on the processes of civil society formation: small business and private entrepreneurship; formation of a favorable business and investment environment, etc. The experience of Uzbekistan shows that the development of small business and private entrepreneurship directly affects the formation and development of amiddle class of owners in the country – the pillars of civil society.

Corporation social responsibility includes the relational responsibility for the contractual stakeholders (relational CSR) and the public responsibility for the whole society (public CSR). In this paper, we examined the effect of organizational virtuousness on a corporation's public CSR behavior and the moderating effect of organizational identity orientation between them. To test our hypothesis, we collected and analyzed a sample from 88 corporations and 742 respondents through questionnaires. Our results show that organizational virtuousness is positively associated with a corporation's public CSR behavior, and this positive effect is moderated by organizational identity orientation. The problem of forecasting market volatility is a difficult task for most fund managers. Volatility forecasts are used for risk management, alpha (risk) trading, and the reduction of trading friction. Improving the forecasts of future market volatility assists fund managers in adding or reducing risk in their portfolios as well as in increasing hedges to protect their portfolios in anticipation of a market sell-off event. Our analysis compares three existing financial models that forecast future market volatility using the Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index (VIX) to six machine/deep learning supervised regression methods. Significant costs are associated with turnover among certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and turnover impacts quality of care for residents of SNFs through disruption of care. The purpose of this study was identification of leadership characteristics of supervisors associated with job satisfaction of CNAs in SNFs. Results indicated that increased levels of trust negatively impact the job satisfaction of the CNAs, whereas increased levels of empowerment increase job satisfaction. These findings may help improve the lives of the workers and increase CNA retention, thus improving the lives of vulnerable members of society through enhanced quality of …

In this paper, we disambiguate risky activity corporate users are propagating with their software in real time by creating an enterprise security visualization solution for system administrators. The current problem in this domain is the lag in cyber intelligence that inhibits preventative security measure execution. This is partially due to the overemphasis of network activity, which is a nonfinite dataset and is difficult to comprehensively ingest with analytics. Highlighting the archaic immigration system in the United States of America (US), the present study demonstrates for the first time the impact of green card waiting time on the work and family life of Indian immigrants living in the US. Our present findings show that 93.4% of our participants are very concerned about the estimated green card waiting time in the US. We find 70% of the total participants are seriously thinking at the present time about emigrating to a more visa-friendly country.
