In an ideal world, we avoid all mistakes in our work. Some mistakes are preventable and others are unavoidable. A few common mistakes in data science that can be minimized include assuming correlation implies causation, modeling with an unrepresentative sample, and focusing on the mean without understanding the distribution. This talk will give an overview of some of the simple yet common mistakes in data science and guidance on how to avoid them.

This study explores employees’ organizational rule-breaking behaviors in the hospitality industry. Unlike the majority of hospitality literature which suggest rule-breakers are deviant, a growing stream of management research suggested that intentions behind rule-breaking behaviors among organizational employees include self-interest, to increase work efficiency, to help a subordinate or a coworker, and to provide good customer service. Our study extends the research on rule-breaking not only by studying the intentions of hospitality employee rule-breaking behaviors, but also by exploring the types of rules broken and the possible consequences of such behaviors. Cybersecurity is a national concern for the United States, yet the cybersecurity workforce is currently understaffed. Military capability planning can be used as a framework to evaluate and establish cybersecurity workforce development models, such as the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework. These models can be used in a way that provides the nation a methodology to enhance human resource capabilities and fill the cybersecurity workforce deficit. Furthermore, this report discusses the importance of establishing and enhancing strategic recruitment initiatives that can be utilized for building a cybersecurity pipeline.

The embargo introduced in August 2014 by Russia on the food products imported from the European Union caused a strong decline in sales of food from Poland in this country. The aim of the article is to analyse the current trends and prospects of development of Polish agrifood trade with the EU and non-EU countries in 2013-2016. A special attention was paid on changes in geographical structure and the level of diversification of Polish food exports as a result of the export restriction. Determinants Of Trade In Value Added: The Case Of The Central And Eastern European Countries, Łukasz Ambroziak

International Journal of Business and Technology

The aim of the paper is to investigate determinants of trade in value added of the CEECs (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) in the period 2000–2014. For this purpose, it uses a generalised gravity model based on panel data. The main independent variables (GDP of trading countries and the distance between them) have the same direction of impact on both value added exports/imports and gross exports/imports. Only the values of coefficients differ. The greatest difference concerns the geographical distance. It results from indirect value added trade.

The CRM evolution process differs according to the history of different countries. This study offers a perspective on CRM from an emerging country, Turkey, and will demonstrate the stages of customer relationship management (CRM) in that country. This research documents the assessment and selection process used by the U.S. Military’s Special Forces for over 70 years using Grounded Theory Methodology. Three independent studies were used to document the Special Forces process of selection. Through comparative reanalysis of each study’s data a model emerged explaining the Special Forces phenomena of assessment and selection.

Analysis was conducted in three phases using open, axial, and selective coding which allowed for the identification of a smaller set of themes which categorized the process of selection. The final step involved the development of two analytical matrices explaining the central theme of selection …

The current study aimed to scrutinize roles of work engagement as a mediator in the relationships between job and personal resources and employees’ outcomes, namely job performance and turnover intention, specifically focusing on testing the essentiality of work engagement. A total of 571 complete responses from full-time employees in Korean organizations were utilized for data analysis with structural equation modeling (SEM). Our results suggest, selling SPY strangles are generally profitable across a variety of widths. However, the payoff profile of a short option strangle exposes the contract seller to a potential for unlimited losses. Our evidence on maximum drawdowns indicates that losses on some positions can be the equivalent of the profits gained on approximately forty prior positions. This payoff profile has given rise to the metaphor of selling option contracts as the equivalent of “picking up nickels in front of a steam roller.” The goal of our paper is to analyze the full return characteristics of option strangles and to …

Increasing remittance flows to developing countries continue to stimulate analytical research. We apply a model, based on the "permanent income hypothesis", to estimate the impact of remittances on consumption in eleven Latin American and Caribbean countries for the period of 2003–2013. The independent variables are: (a) real per capita national income (exclusive of remittances), the measure of "permanent income", (b) remittances, the measure of "transitory income", and (c) real interest rate, the indicator of intertemporal consumption substitution. The coefficient of remittances measures the consumption-augmentation and saving effects, while the correlation between remittances and per capita income indicates the consumption-smoothing effects. …
