Using novel data from two organizations that have been recognized as leaders for their gender equality efforts, we show that even when organizers are taking active steps to reduce gender inequality in more traditional forms of pay (e.g., salary and bonuses), gender pay gaps continue to exist for equity-based awards.

The Hibbs Institute for Business and Economic Research at the University of Texas at Tyler was contacted by KVNE Christian Radio Station to conduct a Demographic Profile of various regions in East Texas: Longview Metro Area, Nacogdoches Micro Area, and Mount Pleasant Micro Area (Figure 1). KVNE Christian Radio Station is interested in understanding the demographic composition of these regions with a special emphasis in the local Hispanic population, as well as the most recent estimates on the number of Spanish speakers in each one of the mentioned areas.

The importance of REER and its computation prompted this study to re-estimate the REER for Nigeria, using the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) methodology. The methodology incorporates recent developments in global trade by employing timevarying trade weighting patterns, highlights the effect of third market competitors, and provides a more comprehensive approach to capturing the effects of bilateral exchange rates through the inclusion of double export weights. The method employed the weighing scheme adopted by Turner and Van’t dack (1993) which has its theoretical underpinnings in Armington (1969). We investigate the theoretical and empirical implications of internationalization as a multidimensional and multilevel construct and its relationship to the renewal capability of the firm. Theoretically, internationalization describes a diverse range of cross-border activities by the multinational enterprise (MNE), and thus carries with it multiple dimensions of depth, breadth, and speed. Empirically, internationalization contains both within- and between-MNE variance, each with potentially different effects on the MNE's renewal capability. Using a unique, longitudinal dataset of 94 MNEs, we find support that each dimension and level of internationalization relates differently to the renewal capability of the MNE. Dual-class Structures enable entrepreneurs to separate voting rights and cash-flow rights in arbitrary proportions to exercise control of the firm. Dual-class structures allow entrepreneurs to retain the benefits of being private and reap the benefits of going public. This dissertation identifies the governance, firm-specific, and strategic antecedents of firms that adopt dual-class structures and determines its effect on IPO performance. This study finds that firms that adopt fewer governance mechanisms, have a greater number of insiders, are younger, have a higher level of sales, pursue risky strategies (such as internationalization, acquisition, and innovation) are more likely to adopt dual-class structures. …

Chapter 1 investigates the effect of environmental uncertainty over the issue of resource allocation in a common pool resources setting. This chapter provides a model of how agents allocate resource among abatement technology, production, and saving with an endogenously determined uncertain damage. The results of a laboratory experiment show a negative effect of uncertain damage on abatement technology adoption and a non-linear relationship between the investment in abatement technology and the self reported risk aversion. Socially responsible policy makers and consumers are pressuring firms to make their supply chains more transparent by disclosing information about their supplier monitoring activities (SMA). Yet, high monitoring costs and the complexity of supply chains pose challenges for firms to effectively monitor their extended supply chain, including both first-tier and lower-tier suppliers. Variable Rate Prescriptions used by farmers to apply agricultural inputs are largely privatized and are normally seen only by the farmer that applies the prescription and the consultants whom create the prescription maps. Farmers need a way to evaluate the prescriptions that are being applied to fields. This paper explores modeling techniques which could be applied by farmers to determine the profitability of a particular consultant. Regression modeling is used on field trials which have been divided into site-specific management zones (SSMZ) based on a consultant’s variable rate prescriptions. Whistleblower lawsuits under the federal False Claims Act have markedly increased over the past decade. While the amount of individual settlements and judgments vary, over time the government has paid out an average of about 15% of its recoveries as awards to whistleblowers. This investigation used a classification tree algorithm to analyze a sample of recent False Claims Act qui tam settlements, identifying several factors that distinguish larger settlements from smaller ones. Thus, many vendors desire to become strategic partners with their clients to thereby acquire a secure monopoly-like position on IT services. How should vendors do so? We argue one way is via the strategic distribution of gifts. This dissertation considers the role of cultural traits in the markets for alternative investments. The latter refers to assets that are not traditionally discussed when building a financial portfolio for ordinary investors. These are subject to low turnover, high maintenance costs, and low liquidity for investors. These features distinguish them to be non-typical assets that demand more careful strategy to acquire, maintain, and sell these belongings.
