Maximum Entropy Approach To Interbank Lending: Towards A More Accurate Algorithm, Thach N. Nguyen, Olga Kosheleva, Vladik Kreinovich

Banks loan money to each and borrow money from each other. To minimizing the risk caused by a possible default of one of the banks, a reasonable idea is to evenly spread the lending between different banks. A natural way to formalize this evenness requirement is to select the interbank amounts for which the entropy is the largest possible. The existing algorithms for solving the resulting constrained optimization problem provides only an approximate solution. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that provides the exact solution to the maximum-entropy interbank lending problem.

This study investigated the relationships between two public relations strategies, bridging and buffering, and their impact on ethical organizational conduct and relational outcomes. Bridging is a relationship-centric, action-based strategy for problem-solving while buffering is an organization-centric, messaging-based strategy for impression management. In explaining the impact of these two strategies on organizational outcomes, this study examined the role of ethical organizational conduct as a mediator between bridging, buffering, and two relational outcomes. Understanding hunter satisfactions can lead to improved wildlife management policy and practice. Whereas previous work has suggested that hunters often seek multiple satisfactions (achievement, affiliation, appreciation), little is known about how satisfactions might vary with target species. Additionally, past research has mostly gathered data using interviews and surveys, which might limit scope as well as introduce strategic bias for potentially provocative subjects such as hunting. To address these gaps, we analyzed data from online hunting forums, which provide an open-access source of peer-to-peer discussion that is geographically and taxonomically broad. Growing evidence shows that biological factors affect individual financial decisions that could be reflected in financial markets. Testosterone, a chemical messenger especially influential in male physiology, has been shown to affect economic decision making, and is taken as a performance enhancer among some financial professionals. This is the first experimental study to test how testosterone causally affects trading and prices. We exogenously elevated testosterone in male traders, and tested testosterone’s effect both on their trading behavior in experimental asset markets and on the size and duration of asset price bubbles. Corporate Governance And The Rise Of Integrating Corporate Social Responsibility Criteria In Exacutive Compensation: Effectiveness And Implications For Firm Outcomes, Caroline Flammer, Bryan Hong, Dylan Minor

This study examines the integration of corporate social responsibility (CSR) criteria in executive compensation, a relatively recent practice in corporate governance. We construct a novel database of CSR contracting and document that CSR contracting has become more prevalent over time. We further find that the adoption of CSR contracting leads to i) an increase in long-term orientation; ii) an increase in firm value; iii) an increase in social and environmental performance; iv) a reduction in emissions; and v) an increase in green innovations. These findings are consistent with our theoretical arguments predicting that CSR contracting helps direct management’s attention to …

While the Irish agricultural sector accounts for just 6% of the working population of Ireland, it consistently has the highest proportion of fatal incidents of any sector - generally ranging from between 35% and 45% of all workplace fatalities in any given year. This was again evident in 2014 where 55% (30 of the 56) of the fatal workplace incidents were in the agricultural sector. Agriculture has an ageing workforce with the average age of an Irish farmer now standing at fifty-seven and farmers are eight times more likely to be fatally injured in a farm accident than the general …

While previous research has established a clear connection between attitudes and consumption intention for men’s spectator sports (Dwyer, 2013; Lim, Martin, & Kwak, 2010; Mahony & Howard, 1998; Mahony & Moorman, 1999; Mahony & Moorman, 2000), the attitude-consumption intention relationship has not been studied in the women’s collegiate sports context. The purpose of the current study was to investigate consumer’s attitudes towards women’s collegiate basketball, examine the impact of the components of attitude on consumers’ future consumption intentions, and assess the differences in attitude and consumption intention based on gender and past consumption behavior. The East Tennessee State University Board of Trustees unanimously passed a measure Friday allowing President Brian Noland to seek public funding opportunities to assist students attending the universitys privately funded Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.

While the pharmacy colleges tuition is average compared to in-state privately funded institutions, tuition cost at the states only publicly funded pharmacy college, the University of Tennessee, is considerably less.

To further compound the matter, just this year, the University of Tennessees College of Pharmacy began offering a 75 percent tuition discount to all out-of-state students living within a 200-mile radius of their main campus …

This paper presents an exploratory study of compulsive buying behavior among male, and specifically metrosexual consumers who represent significant purchasing power, but have yet to be studied in both online and in-store environments. This research has significant importance for public policy, consumer behavior and marketing. The literature has largely ignored specifically male compulsive shopping behavior, and particularly how this behavior manifests itself in different shopping environments and among different subsets of male consumers. Research was gathered via an online survey of 193 males with special attention paid to acquiring equal representation of both urban (potential metrosexuals) and rural consumers. The …
