Behavioral Intervention To Reinforce Correct Youth Employee Behavior At A Nonprofit Boy Scout Summer Camp: A Case Study, Joshua Kallen
Behavioral Intervention To Reinforce Correct Youth Employee Behavior At A Nonprofit Boy Scout Summer Camp: A Case Study, Joshua Kallen
Honors Theses
A reinforcement plan was implemented to improve employee adhesion to set parameters in performance at a 24-hour employment scenario. The reinforcement plan successfully negated the extinction effects of the contingency across the 4 week quasi-experimental period which showed improvement compared to qualitative baseline data. These findings suggest that the reinforcement plan, rather than punishment contingencies, is a more effective tool for encouraging employee participation in activities which participation is aversive.

Innovators And Imitators In Product-Market Competition And Accounting Reporting, Carlos Corona, Lin Nan, Ran Zhao
Innovators And Imitators In Product-Market Competition And Accounting Reporting, Carlos Corona, Lin Nan, Ran Zhao
Accounting Faculty Articles and Research
In this study, we examine firms’ investments in explorative initiatives and their choices of capitalization method in a product-market competition setting. Since the capitalization of exploration expenditures may contain information on whether a firm’s exploration investment is successful, financial reports may reveal important information to competitors, and thus may have real consequences in product-market competition. In our paper, we identify two driving forces that induce firms to choose different capitalization methods: an information-spillover effect and a preempting effect. We also find that enforcing an accounting method that requires firms to capitalize expenditures of only successful explorations may increase or decrease …

Investigating Critical Factors That Influence Shippers' And International Freight Forwarders' Preferences In Carrier Selection Using Integrated Hierarchical Information Integration Approach, Jin-Long Lu
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
This study adopts an integrated hierarchical information integration (HII) approach to collect the preference data from Taiwanese shippers and international freight forwarders (IFFs) of ocean carriers. In total, data from 345 shippers and 245 freight forwarders were included in the sample for analysis. The study then uses multiple linear regression models to investigate the critical factors that influence the preferences in carrier selection among shippers and IFFs. Through model estimations and part-worth utility analyses, this paper suggests that the critical factors of concern to shippers and IFFs are obviously different. Shippers place much importance on factors related to financial stability, …
An Exact And Meta-Heuristic Approach For Two-Agent Single-Machine Scheduling Problem, Wen-Hung Wu
An Exact And Meta-Heuristic Approach For Two-Agent Single-Machine Scheduling Problem, Wen-Hung Wu
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
In many real-life applications, it can be often found that multiple agents compete on the usage of a common processing resource in different application environments and different methodological fields, such as artificial intelligence, decision theory, operations research, etc. Moreover, scheduling with multiple agents is relatively unexplored. Based on this observation, this paper attempts to study a single-machine scheduling problem where the objective is to minimize the total tardiness of the first agent with the constraint that no tardy job is allowed for the second agent. In this study, we provide a branch-and-bound algorithm and a genetic algorithm for the optimal …

A Roadmap For Rural Area Ict Solution Deployment: A Case Of Kgautswane Community In South Africa, Felix F. Ntawanga Mr
The African Journal of Information Systems
The need to introduce technologies in rural areas so as to capacitate communities towards overcoming various socio-economic challenges remains a priority in emerging economies. We rely on the foregoing for the investigation in the Kgautswane community in South Africa, of a range of socio-economic challenges that can be addressed through ICT. Identified challenges are further filtered for the selection of an appropriate intervention based on previous experience in the community. The appropriate challenge forms the basis for the development and deployment of an eProcurement ICT solution for small scale traders in the community with emphasis on the concept of a …
Added Complexity Of Social Entrepreneurship: A Knowledge-Based Approach, Ugur Uygur, Alexei M. Marcoux
Added Complexity Of Social Entrepreneurship: A Knowledge-Based Approach, Ugur Uygur, Alexei M. Marcoux
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Social entrepreneurship evades easy definition and conceptualization. In this paper we attempt to advance social entrepreneurship theoretically by examining it conceptually, from a theory of the firm perspective. If social entrepreneurship entails pursuit of a double bottom line (Dees 1998), the added complexity of the social entrepreneurial venture identified by Tracey and Phillips (2007) should be discoverable from a theory of the firm perspective. Applying the knowledge-based theory of the firm to social entrepreneurship, we aver that social entrepreneurship’s added complexity is manifest when social entrepreneurs make decisions about their knowledge. In contrast to ordinary entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs have to …

WashU Libraries Presentations
One of the most exciting and important conversations within the academic library community is the evolving role of the library in colleges and universities. Among the many scenarios that have been discussed in recent years, one constant is the continuing need for library personnel who can successfully provide information resources to members of the learning and research communities. What are the skills that current and future library professionals will need to be successful in the 21st century academic library? How will organizations recruit, retain and develop the people they need to remain vital? - Emily Stenberg, Digital Publishing & Preservation …

The School Based Family: Coaches And Teachers As Parental Figures For Orphans And Vulnerable Children In Ugandan Schools, Dr. Stacy Taniguchi
Journal of Undergraduate Research
The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine the possible formation of surrogate families within Ugandan schools to potentially provide a context for positive development experiences, especially for orphans who lack positive development opportunities provided by parents. The sample for this study consisted of 66 Ugandan Secondary School students from eight schools the Mukono district of Uganda. In 1994, the United Nations declared families are the basic unit of society and require special attention (Bowen & McKechnie, 2001). However, the failure of the biological family is seen on a mass scale in Uganda due in large part to the …
