Long Term Care facilities are a highly regulated industry due to funding sources being subject to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. The demand for nursing homes is increasing significantly with anticipation of the Baby Boomers reaching age 65. Most research studies of the long-term care industry are focused on quality improvement and reduced deficiencies. This study provides a different view of how strategic capabilities (adaptive, absorptive, and innovative) and Baldrige Health Care Criteria affect financial returns, operational efficiency, and quality for long-term care providers. The findings indicate that facilities' capabilities are associated with Baldrige criteria and performance. However, the relationship between …

Does social media affect consumer decision-making? Social media becomes an important communication tool that people use to connect to other people or organization. Leading Economic Indicator Reports
The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) rose by 0.87% during June 2013. The increase in the LEI-N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, follows a small increase in May. Taken together, results for the two months suggest moderate economic growth in Nebraska at the end of 2013. Such moderate expectations are particularly appropriate because improvement in the LEI-N during June was not broad-based. Looking at individual components of the LEI-N, only two of the six components rose during June, three declined and one was unchanged. Single-family building permits rose during June. But the …

Municipal bonds usually have a lower yield to maturity than comparable US Treasury bonds. While this would normally be indicative of lower risk, it is purely a function of the tax advantages they provide. However, as the recent Detroit, MI bankruptcy filing suggests, municipals do indeed carry higher risk. (See article here, Yahoo! Finance.)

Using Work System Theory To Link Managerial And Technical Perspectives On Bpm, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
Work system theory (WST) provides a bridge between managerial and technical perspectives on BPM that often seem distant from each other. In combination, the work system framework, underlying work system metamodel, and the work system life cycle model provide a number of bridges between those perspectives. In relation to managerial BPM, the work system framework treats "business process" as one of nine elements in a basic understanding of a work system. The others are participants, information, technology, products/services, customers, environment, infrastructure, and strategies. The Psychological Effects Of Perceived Scarcity On Consumers’ Buying Behavior, Shipra Gupta
College of Business: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This research seeks to provide an understanding of consumers’ psychological responses to the scarcity environments that are strategically created by retailers. A mixed method design provides both qualitative and statistical understanding of this phenomenon. The findings across four studies define a new construct that captures consumers’ understanding of the product shortage that is strategically created by the retailer, differentiates it from scarcity situations where the retailer does not necessary limit the supply of the product, and suggests that consumers react differently in the varied conditions. The study suggests that strategically controlled environments, by creating product uncertainty, are able to motivate …
