The Impact Of High Risk Propensity On Lifestyle And Consumption Behaviors, Gergely Nemeth
Honors Projects in Marketing
This research investigates the effects of high-risk propensity (as measured by the sensation seeking scale) on lifestyle variables such as substance use and abuse, number of sexual partners and driving behavior, and explores the consumption patterns exhibited by different risk propensity groups. An online survey with 340 participants was conducted; 64 low, 204 medium and 62 high sensation seekers were identified. High sensation seekers exhibited riskier behaviors across all lifestyle and consumption behaviors and led us to conclude that it is, in fact, a constant personality variable. Does Supervisory Information Explain Security Market Information? Evidence From The Credit Default Swap Market, Timothy Buckler

This paper examines the ability of supervisory information to explain variation in the Credit Default Swap Market. Using data from the fourth quarter of 2004 to the third quarter of 2008, variation in CDS was able to explained well using only Call Report Data. These Call Report data that are proxies for credit risk, leverage risk, and liquidity risk are found to be significant in at least one model. There is evidence of both omitted variables and heteroskedasticity in both models. The volume of digital data is exploding, driven largely by visuals, text, video and other cultural content. Just about everyone can be a “culture professional”. Thus, there is a need to find ways to track and make sense of the growing cultural data volume. Cultural analytics, as this new field is called, is a combination and extension of arts, media and IT. The study of this field will have applications far and wide-ranging, says Lev Manovich, a professor of visual arts at University of California.

Recent corporate and academic scandals have led to decreasing levels of trust and confidence in many organizations. Whether the organization is a college or university, a government agency, a private company or a public corporation, the establishment and maintenance of trust is essential to both short-term success and long-term efficacy. This article deals with how managers and leaders can work to establish trust in their organizations via such strategies as fostering behavioural consistency, behavioural integrity, sharing of control, effective communication and demonstration of concern for employees. This study provides an evaluative framework for state e-recruitment efforts. Challenged bv the impending retirement of the baby boomer generation, public employers are implementing innovative hiring practices to aid in the recruitment of a new, talented workforce. Web-based recruitment offers an opportunity for state recruiters to reach a broader pool of job seeker talent. An effective framework for assessing the adequacy of state hiring websites would establish a set of criteria to aid in the development and implementation of state e-recruitment efforts. This session presents two case studies of the use of open source content management systems (CMSs) in academic libraries. It includes an overview of the benefits and features of CMSs, demonstrates implementations of CMSs at both public sites and staff intranets, and provides a comparison of the two CMS software platforms used (Joomla and Plone) and deployment processes, detailing experiences in such areas as selecting a CMS, identifying resources for support and training, and encouraging staff adoption.

Do pro athletes try harder and perform better during their free agency year? Each year this question is asked in many professional sports. The purpose and objective of this project is to discover whether Major League Baseball players actually have better statistics during their free agency year. The result will add creditability to one side of the issue at hand. Data collected consists of offensive statistics in the year prior to their free agency year, their free agency year itself and the year after their free agency season. Housing and Confinement of Farm Animals Collection
Identifying lame cows and quantifying the prevalence of lameness are important elements of cattle welfare assessment that are generally achieved by methods involving observations of each animal walking. There is no published method for assessing lameness in cows confined in tie-stalls. The objective of this study (carried out within the European Commission’s Welfare Quality® project) was to develop a suitable method and validate it for lameness detection against a published locomotion score. A series of indicators of lameness visible in tied cows was formalized into a stall assessment protocol. This was validated against a traditional locomotion score and tested for …

This paper assesses the effect of non-physicality of a digital product - software - on SCM practice. A number of in-depth, one-on-one interviews were held in 8 software companies that predominantly supply to enterprise customers on a global scale. The aim was to explore distribution challenges within software supply chains and how companies are addressing these challenges. The research has identified three different classes of software distribution models: One, which tends to rely on traditional physical infrastructures and paradigms, and two others that better exploit the properties of the digital products.

Globalization promotes vast business opportunities for trade, flow of capital, ideas, and people. In order to integrate into the global economy, countries tend to promote policies, which in turn, help to remove barriers to the flow of investment, goods, and services. While there is ample information describing how multinational corporations have benefited from globalization through greater access to international markets and investment, there is a need to identify ways to unburden small to medium-sized enterprises so that they can reach their potential in the global economy.
