More than 10 years ago in 1997, three modeling advocates brought together their own distinct techniques to forge UML (Unified Modeling Language), and the world of modeling was forever changed (Booch, Rumbaugh, & Jacobson, 1999, 2005). The Object Management Group (OMG) immediately adopted the new language as the standard for their newly expanded object-oriented (OO) modeling scope (OMG, 2008), and the stage seemed set for a modeling explosion with UML leading the way into a brave new world of more accurate and better performing systems.

The Oil and Gas industry has very unique requirements in reporting oil and gas producing activities. Because of these unique requirements, it has been difficult to compare Oil and Gas companies over the years. The current XBRL US taxonomy includes standardized Oil and Gas disclosures. This paper will introduce the requirements Oil and Gas companies are to follow when reporting their financial information. Also, an analysis of the U. S. GAAP taxonomy was done by tagging Anadarko’s 2006 financial statements1. The analysis was to determine if the taxonomy includes elements for each of these requirements. However, it can be difficult to ascertain whether users are satisfied with such systems, and if not, where concerns exist. In recent years Ireland has changed from a nation of emigration to one of immigration, facilitated by the Irish Celtic Tiger, the globalisation of labour markets and the erosion of labour restrictions across frontiers. Thus there is increased employee diversity in the Irish work environment, with many different races, cultures, norms, values and religions now in evidence in the Irish workforce. These changes have a significant effect on managers as the Irish workplace becomes increasingly culturally heterogeneous, and forms the basis for change in management practice.

This study examines the effects of economic globalization on competitive situations of local firms in a small economy, the strategic responses of these firms to the competitive developments, and marketing and financial performance outcomes of these strategies. Findings indicate both beneficial and deleterious effects of economic globalization on domestic competitive situations. Findings also indicate variations in strategic responses and performance outcomes of local firms. Implications are presented along with recommendations for future research.

Recent interest in competition policy performance has typically relied on subjective performance metrics that have undergone little direct scrutiny by users. We examine the quality of the popular World Economic Forum's antitrust performance metric and assess whether it is immune from perception-bias. A bias-free metric is required to ensure cross-country consistency in its intended performance assessment.

We note various instances where the WEF's competition policy performance survey was completed but where there existed neither competition legislation nor an associated enforcement agency at the time. Unfavorable economic conditions have prompted the investment team to meet a short-term goal: preserve the value of the portfolio by reducing overall risk. A top down analysis of the current portfolio resulted in recommendations to change the portfolio by eliminating funds, investing in long term government bonds, TIPS and large cap value type securities. Allocations of securities was performed by either overweighting or underweighting a particular sector, depending on its historical and expected return during a recession. This article describes how institutions get infused with competing logics and analyzes how such competing logics might aid the design of contemporary organizations. It does so by exploring the contrasting views of American founders Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson on the issues they confronted in the years leading up to and after the United States' independence from the British. Their views have had a lasting influence on the character and efficacy of the U.S. government. This paper extends the current understanding of the time-sensitivity of intent and usage following large-scale IT implementation. Our study focuses on perceived system misfit with organizational processes in tandem with the availability of system circumvention opportunities. Case study comparisons and controlled experiments are used to support the theoretical unpacking of organizational and technical contingencies and their relationship to shifts in user intentions and variation in work-processing tactics over time. Findings suggest that managers and users may retain strong intentions to circumvent systems in the presence of perceived task-technology misfit. The purpose of this research is to examine the present state of downloading and how ethical orientation and attitudes towards MP3 piracy impact such activities. We introduce management and spirituality scholars to the “knack” passages from the c. 4th century B.C.E. text, the Zhuangzi. The knack passages are parables about low status figures, such as wheelwrights, furniture makers and cooks, whose actions offer insights into the spirituality of ordinary work and, we argue, of entrepreneurship. Such non-corporate settings are lesser-studied domains for spirituality. Ancient Chinese writings have been noticed by spirituality and management writers but we call for deeper scholarly textual attention. The Center for Responsible Lending projects California local governments to experience a $107 billion dollar decrease in home values and taxable property rolls as a result of subprime mortgage related foreclosures [Lending, 2008]. Due to Proposition 13, property taxes do not account for a substantial portion of local government revenue. They do, however, constitute 53% of statewide K-14 funding, as stipulated by Proposition 98 (Education Revenue Augmentation Fund or ERAF). As a result of ERAF, local governments (defined as counties, cities, schools, and special districts) receive less money through a complex fund shifting process that offsets statewide general fund spending. …

The primary role of equity compensation is to provide incent ives to an effort-averse agent. Here, we show that the chosen level of equity incentives, whe n publicly disclosed, will also convey information about future earnings, causing two-way linkages between incentive com- pensation and financial reporting. If either (a) market pric es respond more (less) to informa- tion, (b) the manager is more (less) risk-averse, (c) earnin gs are more (less) noisy, then the firm’s owners choose more pronounced (muted) incentives, in turn leading to greater (lower) future earnings.
