This paper discusses the dynamics of competition in the financial services industry, and theories of competition that explain sometimes counter-intuitive effects observed over the last fifty years. We present arguments here that new forces are taking hold in the financial services industry that may change existing competition paradigms. Electronic banking is thriving in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. as customers click their mouse, press telephone keys, and slide cards to conduct their banking. Social entrepreneurs utilize the traits of commercial entrepreneurs; organizational abilities, opportunity identification, combining resources in novel ways, willingness to accept and manage risk and explosive growth or returns, to create enterprises that return high social value. As educators, we see opportunities where entrepreneurial skills can be applied to education, not-for-profit organizations, government offices and programs and philanthropic concerns and create service learning opportunities for students beyond the boundaries of the university. This research empirically investigates competitive relations among locations developing the re-export type of global logistics hubs (GLH) in the Asia-Pacific region from the perspective of logistics service providers. A quantitative SWOT analytical procedure that integrates the AHP method and the fuzzy theory of graded mean integration representations was utilized to empirically evaluate the Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. Respondents located Shenzhen, Busan and Kaohsiung locate in the SO quadrant and Shanghai, HK and Singapore in the WT quadrant. Shanghai could be expected to move into the leading group in the future. The early care and education industry has both current and long-term economic consequences for the Nebraska economy. The long-term impact is to help to educate and develop children into productive and higher earning adults. This impact is well understood. As stated by Nobel Prize winning economist James Heckman, “Early advantages cumulate; so do early disadvantages… redirecting additional funds toward the early years, before the start of traditional schooling, is a sound investment in the productivity and safety of our society” (Heckman and Masterov, 2005).

International Transmission Effects Of Volatility Between Financial Markets In The G-7 Since The Introduction Of The Euro, Lucia Morales

This paper investigates the nature of volatility spillovers between stock returns and a number of exchange rates changes for the G-7 countries for the 1996-2006 period. We divide our sample into a number of sub periods, prior to and after the introduction of the Euro, we use EGARCH modelling which takes into account whether bad news has the same impact on volatility as good news. Our results show that in terms of volatility spillover effects from stock returns to exchange rates returns, there is a large degree of consistency across countries and time periods with significant spillovers found for all …

This study aims to contribute to the body of knowledge as it pertains to our understanding of the relationship between work environment characteristics that influence training transfer. Specifically, this research will examine if training transfer is influenced by: top management support, supervisor support, peer support, organization learning culture, opportunity to perform, task difficulty, task constraints and acquisition category levels. The research is based on a 134 question survey completed by Air Force Acquisition Managers participating in the Air Force Fundamentals of Acquisition Management (AFFAM) course, and is designed to determine if knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in the instruction setting …

The effects of "distance" between organizational units have been a prime concern of scholars aiming to explain international business strategies. We expand this line of research to distinguish formal and informal aspects of the institutional frameworks, which have different implications for businesses. Formal (regulatory) differences are generally transparent and require clearly discernable adjustments. In contrast, informal differences are harder to understand and require experiential learning processes. Thus, aspects of distance vary in their impact on foreign investors' costs of benefits of cooperating with local partners. Academic research in various areas of entrepreneurship has gained momentum over the past three decades. A primary topic of interest has been the characteristics of entrepreneurial organizations, often referred to as the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) of the firm. The current study investigates past contributions in this stream of literature, seeking to provide definitive evidence of previously examined relationships. Further, the study analyzes several moderating influences and provides a new model for assessing a firm's EO. This paper addresses the critical statistical challenge of heteroscedasticity—the non-constant variance of random error—within the framework of Multiple Logistic Regression. When the response variable is qualitative or binary, traditional estimation methods often struggle to maintain efficiency under varying error variances. To resolve this, the authors propose an innovative two-step sequential estimation procedure that integrates the Sequential Bayesian (SB) approach with Weighted Least Squares (WLS) techniques. Unlike classical methods that treat observations in a fixed batch, the sequential Bayesian mechanism allows for the dynamic updating of parameter estimates as observations are processed one by one, effectively incorporating new information into the …

This article examines the dynamic relationship between exchange rates and stock prices in four Easter European markets, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, using stock price and exchange rate data from these countries, as well as stock prices from the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. The data set consists of daily data over a 7 year period from 1999 to 2006. Both the long-run and the short-run association between these variables are analyzed. We employed the Johansen cointegration technique, Vector Error Correction Modeling and the standard Granger causality test to analyze the relationship between these two financial variables. …
