On 28 March 2002, the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Hon Kim Chance MLC, announced the Government's position on National Competition Policy (NCP) insofar as this policy related to licensing of western rock lobster processors (hitherto referred to as 'rock lobster processors' or simply as 'processors'), as governed by the provisions of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994 (FRMA).

In making the announcement, the Minister also undertook to further "review the potential costs and risks of deregulation" ..."in 2006", when they "are better understood by both Government and industry itself'.

Before the Thoroughbreds: Roy Brady and the Century Boat Company is an article about the boat builder Melvin Roy Brady, his family, and his time building boats for Brady Boats of Charlevoix, Michigan, Century Boat Company in Manistee, Michigan and Robinson Boat Company of St. Joeseph, Michigan. It also concentrates on his time as a hydroplane boat racer in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Any casual following of the financial news would reveal that hedge funds have experienced phenomenal growth, especially over the last fifteen years. In terms of numbers, there were an estimated 8000 hedge funds in 2005, up from only 500 in 1990. During this fifteen-year period assets under management have grown from an estimated $50 billion to $1.5 trillion. Moreover, the hedgefund industry has spawned a “fund of funds” business, which has slowly become the preferred way of investing in hedge funds, especially for institutional investors. Today, the number of these combination funds is estimated at about 4000.

A current problem in practice in the medical industry is the underreporting of medical errors. Accordingly, there is no way of knowing whether the harm from medical errors is accurately calculated. Rates of error reporting in high reliability organizations (HROs) exceed those in other industries, including health care. HROs and error reporting have traditionally been examined through a lens of organizational culture and but not from the perspective of individual variations. Using data from over 400 members of diverse organizations, this study examines several factors that affect program commitment and usage. In this study, national advertisements for shampoo products were compared from 1954 and 2004 through the utilization of Katherine Toland Frith’s “Undressing the Ad” technique. This analysis procedure measures the underlying meaning of an advertisement through the dissection of the surface, intended, and cultural/ideological meaning. This study used 10 advertisements, five from each respective decade, to measure each advertisement’s level of stereotyping toward females and gender stereotyping cultivation in general. The study revealed that the 1954 advertisements more directly projected gender stereotyping; however, the 2004 advertisements also contained the stereotypes on an indirect level. Background: The purpose of this study was to determine if periodontal residents could enhance their ability to appraise the pain levels experienced by their patients from probing, using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to record pain. We hypothesized that with increasing experience by repeated comparisons of the patients' VAS pain ratings with independent ratings by the residents, they would improve their ability to appraise their patients' pain experiences.

Methods: For each of three periodontal residents, 40 consecutive periodontitis patients were asked to express the degree of pain they experienced during the probing. Independently, the residents rated the pain level they perceived …

Situated learning theory offers a radical critique of cognitivisttheories of learning, emphasizing the relational aspects of learning withincommunities of practice in contrast to the individualist assumptions ofconventional theories. However, although many researchers have embraced thetheoretical strength of situated learning theory, conceptual issues remainundeveloped in the literature. Roberts, for example, argues in this issue thatthe notion of ‘communities of practice’– a core concept in situated learningtheory – is itself problematic. This study examined gender differences in a large-scale assessment center for officer entry in the British Army. Subgroup differences were investigated for a sample of 1,857 candidates: 1,594 men and 263 women. A construct-driven approach was chosen (a) by examining gender differences at the construct level, (b) by formulating a priori hypotheses about which constructs would be susceptible to gender effects, and (c) by using both effect size statistics and latent mean analyses to investigate gender differences in assessment center ratings. The purpose of this research was to develop and analyze the psychometric properties of Byrd’s Nurse’s Ethical Sensitivity Test (Byrd’s NEST). An instrument to evaluate nurses’ ethical sensitivity in practice by examining choices of action in ethical dilemmas based on nursing virtues: compassion, fidelity to trust, moral courage, justice, self-confidence, resilience, practical reasoning, and integrity (Benner, Tanner, & Chelsa, 1996; Volbrecht, 2002). Benner’s theory of skill acquisition-novice to expert was the theoretical framework for this research which surveyed for correlations between a nurse’s ethical sensitivity and educational level, years of experience, certification, and work setting.
