Desulfovibrio Desulfuricans G20 Tetraheme Cytochrome Structure At 1.5 A˚ And Cytochrome Interaction With Metal Complexes, Mrunalini Pattarkine, J J. Tanner, C A. Bottoms, Y H. Lee, Judy D. Wall

The structure of the type I tetraheme cytochrome c3 from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans G20 was determined to 1.5 A˚ by X-ray crystallography. In addition to the oxidized form, the structure of the molybdate-bound form of the protein was determined from oxidized crystals soaked in sodium molybdate. Only small structural shifts were obtained with metal binding, consistent with the remarkable structural stability of this protein. In vitro experiments with pure cytochrome showed that molybdate could oxidize the reduced cytochrome, although not as rapidly as U(VI) present as uranyl acetate. Federal legislation has been proposed to amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be humanely slaughtered (processed) for human consumption, and for other purposes. The intent of the legislation is to enact a ban in the United States on processing horses for human consumption. The legislation does not provide fiscal support that would likely be needed to respond to an ever increasing number of unwanted, neglected, and abused horses. Recently, there has been a notable increase in the number of accounting graduates entering the management accounting sector of the accounting profession. This increase is so significant that the percentage of accounting graduates pursuing careers in management accounting is almost equal to the percentage seeking employment in public accounting. Despite this trend, however, most undergraduate programs are geared toward preparing students for careers in public accounting. So that undergraduate accounting students are better prepared for careers as management accountants, this study recommends that a management accounting concentration be incorporated into undergraduate accounting curricula. The case study describes a successful smart growth initiative in the town of Amherst, Massachusetts, at an intersection known as Atkins Corner. The initiative grew from two motivating factors: the necessity of realigning Route 116, a major north-to-south artery through the town, to decrease traffic accidents at the intersection and improve pedestrian safety; and a desire on the part of Hampshire College and the Town to create a village center at the intersection. Organization Management Journal

The author provides a personal account of his transition from attempting to use charisma to transmit knowledge to students to removing it so that students can themselves experience knowledge as a basis for learning. Consistent with inquiry-based democratic pedagogy, the author demonstrates how he became more a facilitator of learning than its transmitter. He shows how putting charisma into unscheduled classroom inquiry rather than into the teacher’s delivery can produce knowledge collectively and concurrently co-constructed in service of action.

One reason that academic service-learning is still not utilized in some schools of business is that their faculty and administrators remain uninformed and uneducated about this pedagogy. This article was written to help bridge the gap between theory and practice with regard to the actual design and implementation of servicelearning in management education. This article discusses the use of student self-assessment (SSA) for formative and summative assessment in two undergraduate programs, a management program and a leadership program, to encourage students to become more engaged in their learning. Using action research, we used an iterative process of changing or refining our methods to accommodate the differences in our teaching environments, concluding that different methods may be desirable in different environments, and that students appear to benefit from SSA regardless of the method used. The amount of information required in a corporate annual report continues to increase. Most recently, additional reporting requirements brought about by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOA), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) increase the number of component reports that must be included in the annual report package. Lenders need to be familiar with the additional information that these new components provide. Therefore, this article summarizes the required component reports, discusses the information conveyed in each report and gives some examples of the types of significant new information that can be obtained.

This action research was designed to identify causes and potential solutions for low enrollment in new technical programs at Laramie County Community College's (LCCC) Albany County Campus (ACC). Pearce and Robinson's (1989) action research model was used for this project. The collaborative team consisted of various faculty and staff members from LCCC. Questionnaires, interviews, and document collection were used to gather data required to complete this project. The data collected was then statistically analyzed, interpreted, and used to plan interventions. By using the Cummings and Worley action research model, a community college's admissions process is examined to discover ways of improving the process by increasing student understandability while yielding higher quality data for institutional decision making. Action research is the methodology chosen because the exact deterrents along with the best solutions are uncertain, and would be discovered collaboratively. As part of the research process, the college's history, mission, and outside influences are examined, as well as the components of quality data.
