Renminbi Revaluation, Euro Appreciation And Chinese Markets: What Can We Learn From Data?, Paul D. Mcnelis, Salih N. Neftçi

CRIF Working Paper series

This paper examines financial market data to assess the likelihood of renminbi revaluation and its implications for Chinese share price increases, given the continuing appreciation of the Euro against the U.S. dollar. We find that the 3-month non-deliverable forward premia are key series linking these variables. The forward premia predict series A share-price changes, while Euro/US dollar exchange rates in turn predict foreward-premia. Bayesian models outperform standard linear models for forecasting performance.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the websites of a randomly selected group of Costa Rican ecolodges to determine how they are using their websites to market on the Internet. The study addresses the question of whether or not the ecolodges are using their websites to promote themselves as ecolodges, and if in fact they also promote ecotourism. Ecolodges are an important component of ecotourism and the success of ecotourism may depend on the success of the ecolodge. In the past, however, due to their remote location, it has been difficult for ecolodge owners to promote their ecolodges. …

During the past decade there has been a proliferation of sports stadia being built in America’s municipal districts. While it used to be common for the public to fully fund stadium construction projects, over the past 20 years factors such as political motives, tax reform, and increased public awareness of tax equity have forced sports teams to share increasing amounts of the financial burden (Crompton, Howard, & Var, 2003). Sporting events have increasingly become the epicenter of sponsorship or logo showcasing and the concept of sponsorship has changed the way sport marketers view sporting events ever so drastically. The amount of logo exposure at sporting venues determines the fine line between instant elation and intolerable anguish for sport marketers. Do consumers then actually notice the multitiude of logos that the sponsors bombard them with at these sporting events? Marketing academics endeavor to conduct research that contributes to the development of cutting edge theories and ideas about marketing. At the same time, they try to incorporate these research findings into their classes through the application of theories to the practice of marketing. Even so, marketing scholarship comes under intermittent attack for being arcane and irrelevant for practitioners. To explore this disconnect between theory and practice, we review the evolution of scholarly research in marketing. Currently, there are over 260 EMBA programs worldwide with approximately 180 programs resident in the United States. The number of programs available for EMBA students has increased competition for those students. One characteristic of this increased competition between EMBA programs is the addition of global initiatives to expose students to other cultures. Part of this global initiative has resulted in alliances and the establishment of working relationships between educational institutions. Stacking The Deck? An Empirical Analysis Of Agreement Rates Between Pro Tempore Justices And Chief Justices Of California, 1977-2003, James Brent

The chief justice of California is empowered to select a pro tempore justice when one or more of the court's regular justices are absent. Chief Justice Rose Bird was accused of using this power to manipulate case outcomes. Contemporary scholarly investigations came to mixed conclusions. Bird's successors have adopted the nondiscretionary method of alphabetical selection. The present study compares the agreement rates of temporary justices with Bird and with her two immediate successors, Malcolm Lucas and Ronald George. It finds evidence of vote bias for Bird, particularly in close cases and cases before April 1981. It does not find evidence …

On April 1, 2006, German based Infineon Technologies AG, announced that it would split off its semiconductor memory business by forming a wholly owned subsidiary named Qimonda (pronounced key-monda). The effective dates of the split would occur on May 1, 2006, two months prior to the previously announced date of July 1, 2006. Infineon also announced that it would conduct an initial public offering (IPO) of Qimonda at unspecified future date, thereby liquidating its majority interest in the company.

After the split, Qimonda would emerge as the 4th largest global manufacturer of DRAM memory components. The company would be headquartered …

Nascent revival of dialogue is struggling to reach its potential within the postmodern organizational milieu. Concurrently, interpersonal intersubjectivity has steadily been de-pathologized, via reassessments of countertransference in the psychoanalytic sphere, allowing exploration of its utility in other domains of relational process. Effective use of dialogue is critical and foundational to developing meaningful and sustainable enterprise in the immediate future. Despite the risks, intentionally explored intersubjectivity is a powerful tool to enrich the container of dialogue.
