The Role Of Exchange Rates In The Intertemporal Risk-Return Relation In International Economies, Turan G. Bali, Liuren Wu

CRIF Seminar series

This paper investigates the role of currency denomination in the the intertemporal risk-return relation among G7 countries. Similar to the findings of previous studies, our estimation also shows that the financial markets of the G7 countries are integrated. We obtain significant pricing coefficient estimates on the global index, but insignificant estimates on country-specific risks. Different from the literature, however, we find that the intertemporal risk-return relation differ significantly under different currency denominations. The slope coefficient estimate is the largest at around seven when the returns are denominated in Japanese yen, smallest at around three to four when the returns are …

On Sport and Society

For those of us who spent a significant part of our professional time and energy in the study of the 1950s, the current hysteria over steroids in the House of Representatives evokes definite historical memories. For some of us it even recalls memories of childhood when "Point of Order Mr. Chairman" was shouted across the schoolyard. This is not to equate the hearings of the House Committee on steroids in baseball, with Sen. Joseph McCarthy's hearings on Communists in government. It is however meant to draw some parallels and raise some questions.

Family Deepening: A Qualitative Inquiry Into The Experience Of Families Who Participate In Service Missions, Alexis A. Palmer

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to discover what families perceive as the benefits of participating in family volunteering; specifically service missions and the substantive impact the experience had on the families. A grounded theory approached was used. Five families were identified through a criteria-based snowball sampling technique. The data were analyzed using constant comparison. Based on the data analysis a core category emerged that encapsulated the result of the family service experience. The core category was coined, "family deepening." Family deepening encompassed the essence of the process the families in this study experienced. In order to achieve family deepening …

The Determination Of Port Facilities Management Fee With Guaranteed Volume Using Options Pricing Model, Kee-Kuo Chen

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

This paper proposes a procedure to calculate the port facilities management fee (MF) in a build-and-lease (BL) contract with guaranteed volume (GV). The MF pricing problem exists in the contracts concluded by the lessees of port facilities and harbor bureaus for a long time. The problem is solved by analyzing the property of GV firstly, and then taking the real option approach to find the MF in BL contracts with GV. Finally, to demonstrate the method a real BL contract with GV is provided and its MF is calculated in this paper.
