Purpose - The issue of varying stakeholder expectations has significant implications for successful enterprise information system implementation. This issue becomes more prevalent in e-government situations where a variety of stakeholders are influenced by inter-organizational knowledge sharing. This paper presents an exploratory investigation of the diverging and converging expectations of various stakeholders at the initiation of e-government projects with regard to the benefits of and barriers to interorganizational knowledge sharing. Design/methodology/approach - Survey data were collected from seven cases within the New York State (NYS) government setting. The Porter Five-Forces Industry Analysis Framework For Religious Nonprofits: A Conceptual Analysis, Michael E. Cafferky

Goold (1997) has argued that the Porter (1980) five-forces framework for industry analysis is not applicable to nonprofits. In light of recent essays (e.g. Miller, 2002) as well as literature from the world of religious nonprofit organizations and organization theory, the Porter framework is analyzed through a review of representative literature. The religious nonprofit arena was chosen for this conceptual analysis based on an assumed key difference between religious nonprofits and for-profit firms: the stronger influence that mission has in strategy formulation compared with the influence of the external environment. Implications for further research are suggested.

A Diagnosis And Intervention Strategy For Improving Morale In A Food Safety Program, Jeffrey J. Zayach

Staff in Boulder County Public Health's Environmental Health Division Consumer Protection Program are experiencing low morale. With the collaborative involvement of the Consumer Protection Team, the purpose of this action research project is to determine the causes of low employee morale through the use of several data collection tools, and to develop an intervention plan to improve employee morale. This paper documents the background of the organization, the morale problem, methods used to assess the problem, results of data collection and a discussion of the findings and recommendations to address morale.

The Accounting Profession in Transition: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Change was the theme of a conference held at the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, on October 6-8, 2005. The Accounting Hall of Fame joined with the Academy of Accounting Historians to sponsor the conference. Over 125 accounting professionals, scholars and regulators attended including 16 representatives from other countries - 5 from Turkey, 3 from Japan, 2 from Thailand, 2 from Spain, 2 from Mexico, 1 from Canada, 1 from Australia and 1 from the United Kingdom. The Impact Of Insider Trading On Market Liquidity In The Nasdaq Market, Walayet A. Khan, H. Kent Baker, Mukesh Chaudhry, Suneel K. Maheshwari

Accounting Faculty Research

This study examines the relationship between insider trading and market liquidity (spread and depth) of NASDAQ-100 stocks. Tests on an intraday sample of sell trades show no evidence of cross-sectional association between the width of the spread and insider trading, but detect some widening of the spread after the fact. Overall, our results provide mixed evidence on the ability of NASDAQ dealers to unravel informed order flow and adjust spreads accordingly. Their short-term behavior suggests an inability to detect insider trading and widen spreads, but their behavior over time suggests that dealers may attempt to recover what they apparently lose …

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

The present study is a microeconomic investigation, based on personal interviews with different microentrepreneurs and functionaries of credit institutions. It evaluates the impact of micro-credit, investigates the challenges the micro-credit programs have to confront, and suggests some potential improvements. In a qualitative analysis the following conclusions have been reached: the micro-credit is very limited in scope, it is not focused on really poor people, and neither has it been effective in helping the beneficiaries it has had to grow. Thus, while micro-credit has had many positive effects and has been useful to maintain and develop the microenterprise sector, it has …

Information systems students continue to struggle to successfully complete computer programming classes. Learning how to program is difficult, and failure and attrition rates in college level programming classes remain at an unacceptably high rate. Since many IS students take a programming course as part of their program of study, IS educators should better understand why IS students tend to achieve low success rates in programming courses and what can be done to improve success rates.
