Market Foresight Capability: Determinants And New Product Outcomes, Michael Mccardle
Market Foresight Capability: Determinants And New Product Outcomes, Michael Mccardle
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To achieve and maintain a superior competitive position, firms must develop market sensing capability-the ability to sense events and trends in markets ahead of competitors (Day 1994a). According to Day, in firms with superior market sensing capability, "the processes for gathering, interpreting, and using market information are more systematic, thoughtful, and anticipatory than in other firms" [emphasis added]. Although Day asserted that market orientation captures the essence of a market sensing capability, researchers have suggested that market orientation, by itself, does not provide the requisite ability to develop competitive advantage because of its focus on detecting rather than anticipating market …

2005 Survey Report On The Wellbeing Of The Professions: Policing, Nursing And Teaching, Institute For The Service Professions, Edith Cowan University
Research outputs pre 2011
This report assesses the wellbeing of the professions of policing, nursing and teaching in Western Australia. The findings are derived from surveys of how individuals think about their occupations, their colleagues and employers. The level of wellbeing affects the ease of attracting and retaining staff and the quality of delivered services.
We present and discuss summary results of responses to questionnaires sent in 2005 to 5,180 police, 6,000 nurses and 9,000 teachers. Each of the professions is here regarded as a single group. The number of respondents is sufficient to allow many more detailed analyses to be performed and reported …
Development Forecast: The Fiscal Effects On Property Taxes And Occupational License Fees And The Social Costs And Benefits Of Urban Redevelopment In Lexington-Fayette County, Kentucky, Tony J. Stoeppel
MPA/MPP/MPFM Capstone Projects
Real estate development has effects on the publicly recorded property valuation of a parcel. The extent of the relationship in Lexington-Fayette County demands further analysis. Redevelopment also has unintended social costs the public may be forced to bear. This study presents estimates of the fiscal impact a redevelopment project has on the local tax revenues. The study population used for analysis includes redevelopment projects completed within the last six years in the downtown Lexington area. The research attempts to formalize a relationship among the incremental change in the publicly recorded value, the cost of redevelopment, and the distance the project …
Education, Technological Progress And Economic Growth, Winston T. H. Koh, Hing-Man Leung
Education, Technological Progress And Economic Growth, Winston T. H. Koh, Hing-Man Leung
Research Collection School Of Economics
An important role of education – and the resultant accumulation of human capital – for a less-developed economy is to facilitate technology diffusion in order for it to catch up with developed economies. This paper presents a model linking education, the accumulation of physical capital and technological progress. In the model, investment in education and the accumulation of physical capital are complementary, and intertwine with the technology progress through related effects on technology diffusion and the expansion of the technology frontier. The allocation of effort to education, the optimal savings rate and the technology gap are endogenously determined in the …

An Empirical Investigation Of The Link Between Market Orientation And New Product Performance: The Mediating Effects Of Organizational Capabilities, Turkan Dursun-Kilic
Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration
In today's business world, one of the most important problems that companies encounter is new product failure. The high product failure rate has been a major concern for practitioners for many years. It was reported that almost half of the new products introduced each year will actually fail (e.g., Sivadas and Dwyer 2000; Zirger and Maidique 1990). Given the fact that the increasing level of technological advancement, consumer expectations, and domestic as well as international competitive pressures continue to shorten the product life cycle for new products, it has become extremely important for companies to understand the critical determinants of …
A Dialectical Methodology For Decision Support Systems Design, Wafa Elgarah
A Dialectical Methodology For Decision Support Systems Design, Wafa Elgarah
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As organizations continue to grow in size, reaching global proportions, they have ever increasing impacts on their environments. Some believe that a much broader array of concerns should be brought into organizational decision-making processes, including greater consideration of social, political, ethical and aesthetic factors (Mitroff and Linstone, 1993; Courtney, 2001). Decision environments such as these are decidedly "wicked" (Rittel and Webber, 1973). Designing decision support systems in such environments where there is a high level of interconnectedness, issues are overlapping and a multiplicity of stakeholders is involved, is a very complex task. In this dissertation a methodology for the development …

Financing America's Roads: The Past Is Prologue, Michael Gravier, M. Theodore Farris
Marketing Department Faculty Journal Articles
This article provides a historical perspective of American roadway financing. It explores revenue collection and expenditures at the federal, state, and local governmental levels. Accounting practices of the Highway Trust Fund are discussed including the enactment of the Truth in Budgeting Act to shift revenue collection closer to a direct-user tax. Factors affecting roadway tax revenues are identified and the impact of increasing taxes is discussed. Four key considerations which will continue to shape roadway revenue collection are identified.

Supply Chain Contracts And Food Safety, S. Andrew Starbird
Supply Chain Contracts And Food Safety, S. Andrew Starbird
Information Systems and Analytics
In this article, I examine how supply chain contracts can be designed to improve the safety of purchased inputs. Contracts are frequently used to govern the exchange of goods, services, information, and money between supply chain participants. Even when sellers have more information about the product safety than buyers do, contracts can be used to enhance food safety.

At the end of 2000, current and former employees of the energy trading company Enron Corporation held $2.1 billion in the firm’s 401(k) retirement savings plan. Sixty-two percent of that money was invested in Enron stock, then trading at $83 a share. In October 2001 Enron’s finances began to unravel as its accounting improprieties came to light. Enron stock plummeted over the next several weeks, and on December 2, 2001, the company declared bankruptcy, rendering its shares worthless. Thousands of Enron employees lost their jobs and a large fraction of their retirement wealth simultaneously.

Property Taxation Of Multifamily Housing: An Empirical Analysis Of Vertical And Horizontal Equity, Gary C. Cornia, Barrett A. Slade
Faculty Publications
This paper analyzes the uniformity of the property appraisal outcome for multifamily apartment complexes in Phoenix, Arizona. Specifically, it investigates vertical and horizontal equity and equity across assessment methods. Apartment transactions and assessed valuations are examined over a fiveyear period (1998–2002). Once possible bias in model specification is accounted for, no evidence of vertical inequity in the sample is found. However, there is modest evidence of horizontal inequity: the results suggest that complex size and geographic location are more difficult for the assessor to value uniformly. There is also inequity between small and large properties, as represented by two different …

Use Of An Advising Team, Jane E. Campbell, Randy Stuart
Faculty Articles
The Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University uses selected faculty members on an Advising Team, and provides access to them through walk-in advising hours. Compared to our previous approach of assigning students to all faculty members, the benefits of this system for the students are more efficient and effective advising. Students have access to advising at more times, and are more likely to get correct answers quickly. The benefits for the faculty are that the faculty members on the Team enjoy advising and can have their performance expectations tailored to include advising, while those faculty members …

This exposure draft introduces a proposed Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) that will replace SAS No. 96, Audit Documentation (AICPA, Professional Standards, vol. 1, AU sec. 339). This proposed SAS establishes standards and provides guidance to an auditor on audit documentation for audits of financial statements or other financial information being reported on. Issues surrounding audit documentation continue to be discussed due to events affecting the profession that post-date the development and issuance of SAS No. 96. Specifically, some state regulators and government auditors seek more uniformity in the preparation, filing, and retention of audit documentation of nonissuers. Audit documentation …

In serving the public interest, the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) aims to set high quality auditing and assurance standards for nonissuers that are understandable, clear, and capable of consistent application, thereby serving to enhance the quality and uniformity of practice. In doing so, the ASB seeks to balance the needs of a wide range of users, including auditors, those responsible for governance, regulators, and the public in general. Until now, the accounting profession has not expressly defined imperatives used to describe different degrees of the auditor's responsibility when conducting audit engagements in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and attestation …
