Why Lend To Small And Medium Enterprises?, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Why should commercial banks lend to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)? They haven’t done this before. What has happened that they should do it now? Aren’t there higher risks of default and non-payment in case of these types of borrowers? These are legitimate questions and I would like, this morning, to focus on five different aspects of this issue: a) The overall context and direction of commercial bank lending. b) Win-win situation for the banks, entrepreneurs and national economy. c) Credit appraisal technology for SMEs. d) Regulatory and infrastructure support. e) Learning from international best practices.

Journal of Transportation Management

Pricing services of motor carriers is a dynamic process, with continuous pressure from customers to offer competitive rates and discounts. This can lead to a profusion of special arrangements with rates that poorly reflect the services rendered. This article shows how standard database systems and statistical models can be used to extract useful information from bills of lading to assist in the pricing of freight services. Summaries of business performance are produced according to terminal facility, shipping origin, shipping destination, individual shipping lane and individual customer. To support smaller reparable asset inventories, current Air Force logistics policies direct the “expedited evacuation of reparables ... to the source of repair.” Mode selection is based on the asset. Focusing on the asset is an efficient and effective method of getting assets to where they are needed in a timely manner in the forward portion of the supply pipeline. However, in the reverse portion of the pipeline, the demand for an asset may no longer be critical to how it is transported. The quantity of the asset at the depot may already exceed repair capacity. The information technology economy with its endless 24/7 workdays has eroded the normative cycle of work and rest, and as a result, many Americans are experiencing a profound and increasing sense of time pressure. By integrating biblical passages relating to Sabbath observance with psychological and organizational empirical literature, Diddams et al seek describe the principles of rest, reflection, and relationships underlying biblical notions of rhythm; identify their associated influence on psychological wellness; and discuss how organizations can embrace a rhythmic, Sabbath culture.

The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) was developed and first announced in early 1991 as an objective method of comparing airline quality on combined multiple performance criteria. This current report, the Airline Quality Rating 2004, reflects monthly Airline Quality Rating scores for 2003. AQR scores far the calendar year 2003 are based on 15 elements in four major areas that focus on airline performance aspects important to air travel consumers.

Is Australasia, North And Southeast Asia Becoming A Yen Block?, Colm Kearney, Cal Muckley

CRIF Seminar series

We use up to 24 years of weekly data on 11 bilateral yen exchange rates to examine the evidence of an emerging yen bloc in Australasia, North and Southeast Asia. The logarithmic first differences of these exchange rates are modelled in response to variations in their US dollar, German marc, and UK pound counterparts using a general-to-specific dynamic Newey-West estimation strategy. We find strong evidence contrary to the notion of a de facto yen bloc. Each 1 percent rise in the US dollar (German marc, UK pound) effective exchange rate causes a mean 1.27 (1.8, 0.18) percent appreciation in the …
