Optimum Advertising Pulsation Strategies: A Dynamic Programming Approach, Hongkai Zhang

This study, using the dynamic programming approach, has addressed the problem of optimally allocating a fixed advertising budget of a monopolistic firm over a planning horizon comprised of n equal periods to maximize two popular measures of advertising performance: (1) profits related to the advertising effort (discount factor r = 0), and (2) present value of profits related to the advertising effort (discount factor r > 0).

The Effects Of Ethnicity, Ethnic Salience And Ethnic Identification On Consumers' Sources Of Information And Purchase Behavior, Patricia Wooten Humphrey

The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any significant differences in the search and purchase behavior between white and black consumers due to ethnicity, ethnic identification, ethnic salience and ethnic situation.

The sample was chosen from two universities, one predominately white, the other predominately black. Of the 360 questionnaires administered, 345 were usable. The sample was representative of the student population of each university with respect to age, gender, and ethnicity. Statistical techniques used were ANOVAs, t-tests and paired comparisons.

Differences Between Stayers And Leavers Among Part-Time Workers, Kevin W. Sightler, Janet S. Adams

Some 23 million US workers are employed part-time, presenting significant challenges to the practicing manager. Successfully managing turnover has both operational and strategic consequences for an organization. However, very little is known about the turnover of part-time employees. In this exploratory study, a discriminant analysis is presented of biographic characteristics of stayers and leavers among 1,053 part-time hospital employees. Pay, length of employment, management status, race and gender significantly discriminate stayers from leavers. Managerial and research implications are discussed.

The Value Of Open Market Repurchases Of Closed-End Fund Shares, Gary E. Porter, Rodney L. Roenfeldt, Neil W. Sicherman

The authors illustrate the value to shareholders when closed-end funds repurchase shares at a discount from net asset value. Repurchases increase share price even when there is no asymmetric information concerning the value of the underlying assets and the percentage discount remains unchanged following the repurchase. Expected gains to shareholders are derived from capturing the discount on the assets associated with the shares repurchased. In an analysis of 27 open market repurchase announcements by closed-end funds, the regression coefficient estimate that measures the association between the actual excess return and the expected increase in share price is essentially 1.0.

Optimum Capital/Asset Ratios In The Credit Union Industry: A Managerial Perspective, Hubert J. Dywer, James S. Gould, Raymond H. Lopez

This study provides a statistical tool for assisting credit union managers in planning capital/asset ratio strategies for optimum operating efficiency. Focus groups, personal interviews, and survey data from randomly selected responses form the basis of our model. Two multiple regression equations allow operating managers to set target goals for their gross and net capital/asset ratios.

Little research has been done to show skill requirements and employability trends for high school graduates in a specific local industrial sector, such as manufacturing. It was in an effort to better equip Dubuque's students with the skills they need for employability and success in the workplace, that this research has answered the question: What are the employability expectations and hiring trends of high school graduates by Dubuque County manufacturers?
