The purpose of this project was to design a model training program to prepare hotel service employment candidates for hire, in selected hotels in Vancouver, Btitish Columbia, Canada. To accomplish this purpose, a review of current literature regarding training criteria for hotel service occupations employment was conducted.

The purpose of this project was to design and develop a model business ethics curriculum for high school students at Changhua Provincial Commercial High School in Changhua, Taiwan, (R.O.C.). To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature related to recent developments in business ethics curriculum and instruction was reviewed. Additionally, related information from selected schools with business ethics programs was obtained and analyzed.

The current in orne tax system fails to achieve several of these goals. This paper will examine three alternatives to the income tax: a national sales tax, a value added tax, and a personal expen iture tax. The three taxes create the same tax on an item of consumption through different methods. These options will be discussed in comparison to the current income tax on the basis of administrative efficiency, equity, economic consequences, and transitional difficulties.

In order to assure policyholders that their benefits will be available when they are needed, the National Association ofInsurance Commissioners (NAIC) has begun regulating insurer capital through the Risk-Based Capital (RBC) Model Act for life insurance companies. The Model Act helps state insurance regulators plan to preserve and protect adequate insurance capital levels and maintain insurer solvency. The RBC requirements provide for a ratio which assesses the level of risk that is associated with an insurance company's assets. Divergent Effects Of Job Control On Coping With Work Stressors: The Key Role Of Self-Efficacy, John Schaubroeck, Deryl E. Merritt

Department of Management: Faculty Publications

This study identifies job self-efficacy as a moderating variable that may determine whether job control contributes positively or negative to coping with work stressors. Data from two samples (health professionals and an occupationally diverse group) demonstrated similar interactions between demands, control, and self-efficacy predicting blood pressure. These results may reconcile the previous inconsistent and largely method-bound support for Karasek's job demands-control model and suggest that efforts to improve job self-efficacy may be as important to reducing the cardiovascular consequences of job stress as efforts to enhance control.

The agricultural reform is characterized by the adoption of the household responsibility system. The goal of the rural reform is first to achieve effective allocation of labor and land, and second to realize equity and efficiency in rural earnings distribution.

The objective of this paper is to determine the feasibility of using hedonic pricing models to predict the cost to the Air Force of aircraft engines purchased under government contracts. A hedonic pricing model is constructed using an ordinary least square regression format. The distinguishing factor is that cost is always the dependent variable in a hedonic pricing model. The word hedonic means pertaining to pleasure. Economists relate pleasure to value. Therefore, the predicted coefficients of variables produced by the hedonic model, represent marginal values of each variable. The coefficients also show how the variables impact cost. A mathematical policy model of oak woodlands is presented. The model illustrates the policy uncertainties that exist in the management of oak woodlands. These uncertainties include: (1) selection of a policy criterion function, (2) woodland dynamics, (3) initial and final state of the woodland stock. The paper provides a review of each of the uncertainty issues. The final section of the paper describes a modeling approach that can be developed to assist policy makers in evaluating alternative oak woodland policy actions.

A Study Of Stress In The Workplace In The 1990s, Reva Carol Mays

This study was conducted to determine if there was a significant difference in the intensity and frequency of organizational stress and job risk stress perceived between salaried, white-collar (N=37) employees and skilled blue-collar, union employees (N=35). 59 of the subjects were male and 13 were female.

The respondents completed two self-administered questionnaires. One was a work stress instrument, and the other was a demographic data sheet. The stress instrument contained 40 items, with scoring based on a 5-point Likert-type scale, that measured intensity and frequency of stress. The demographic data sheet contained 13 items.
