The World Is Flat: A Brief History Of The Globalized Worid In The 21st Century, Sonia Lalchandani

Management Dynamics

As far back as we can remember, the earth has been spherical. Paradoxically, it now appears that the world has "flattened". This is due to certain events which have taken shape over the past couple of decades. The consequent transition demands adaption not only from individuals and corporates but also society and nations as a whole. This is precisely the theme of Thomas L. Friedman's latest book "The World is Flat". If one wants to leam about globalization right from scratch, from its cradle to the present adolescent age, then Friedman's book is the right choice.

Ipos In Compulsory Demat Mode. How Fair For The Small Investors?, Sachin Agarwal

Management Dynamics

The SEBI ruling requiring issue houses to issue public offerings (IPO's, new issues, etc.) in compulsory demat mode has created an anomaly which keeps the small and long-term investor out of the game. The benefits that would have accrued to small investors are snatched away by the larger & powerful players. The IPOs of banks and companies like Maruti Udyog, NTPC and TV Today etc. had claimed to target the small investor, but the small investor had in fact been a mere conduit to channel the holdings to larger players. This defeated the objective of creating wide-spread public participation and …

Management Dynamics For De-Stereotyping The Corporate Culture: An Alternative To European And North American Concepts, Magoroh Maruyama, Kuniko Maruyama

Management Dynamics

In countries where the management is not dominated by the established orthodoxy of European and North American theories, principles and practices, it is possible to use alternative concepts with less ponderous resistance. Most of the researchers who follow the established orthodoxy either: (a) take it for granted that the corporate cultures are preconditioned by or reflect their country cultures, and therefore they begin their research with a study of country cultures, and then proceed to interpret corporate cultures in terms of country cultures; or (b) infer the country cultures from an aggregate of corporate cultures. In both cases they intentionally …

The Sisterarchy Of Indian Feminism, Shweta Sinha Apr 2022

The Sisterarchy Of Indian Feminism, Shweta Sinha

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

The paradigm of feminism in India is deeply entrenched in its socio-cultural-political-economic reality. It is an ever-evolving byproduct of patriarchy borne out of the caste-system, colonialism, urbanism (‘Westernism’), and capitalism. As a result, the plurality within Indian feminism is predicated on the multiple patriarchies that exist within the Indian society. Therefore, while parsing feminism in India, it is imperative to identify and acknowledge the various sub-groups and intersectionality that exist within the larger framework of women’s issues.

Amongst all the marginalized factions that exist within the feminist framework, this study attempts to investigate a specific caste/class-based intersectional perspective, i.e., Dalit …
