Allocation In Dual-Channel Retailing Using Simulation: Fulfillment Cost And Cycle Time Considerations, Cynthia R. Lovelace
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
Omni-channel retailing has grown exponentially since the onset of the COVID-19pandemic and the associated increase in demand for fully online and buy-online-pickup-in-store(BOPIS) shopping options. As part of the evolution of demand fulfillment, retailers mustreassess their fulfillment strategies with a focus on maintaining or improving customer service(in the form of product availability, shortened order fulfillment cycle times, and order accuracy)while maintaining or reducing inventory and order fulfillment costs (which incorporate orderpick, packaging, and delivery costs). Achieving these objectives may include store fulfillmentin addition to direct fulfillment from distribution facilities. The purpose of this research is toevaluate inventory allocation decisions in a …

A Historical Analysis Of Accounting Salaries As A Key Factor In The Staffing Crisis, Susan Coomer Galbreath, Han-Sheng Chen, Mark Jobe
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
The accounting profession is facing a staffing crisis. Addressing the causes for the decline in the number of accounting professionals and collegiate accounting majors is a multifaceted problem. To remain competitive and overcome the staffing shortage, the accounting profession must analyze the causes and make appropriate adjustments. To this point, in February 2023, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) issued a draft plan that tackles eight root causes that are negatively impacting the accounting talent pipeline. Interestingly, salary challenges are not included in the eight root causes examined by the AICPA’s plan. This article analyzes the history of …

The Impact Of Live On-Campus Events On University Enrollments, Lane Boyte-Eckis, Dewey W. Todd, Steven J. Lee, Anand Krishnamoorthy
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
Due to declining college enrollment rates and intense competition to recruit students to attend one's college or university, we must avoid the limitations of bounded awareness (i.e., wemust think outside the box) when marketing our institution. This paper examined a College of Business teaming up with University Admissions to host a live on-campus event targeted at high school juniors and seniors. The event allowed students to be involved hands-on with numerous competitions, networking events, and the potential to win scholarship monies. We investigated if experiences of this nature are effective tools to increase student interest and enrollment. This study used …

Do You Have To Attend To Succeed: Is There A Relationship Between Class Attendance And Final Grades, Michael Monahan, Amit Shah
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
University classes have a variety of assessments to determine if the students have learned the material. However, the researchers contend attendance is a strong predictor of class success. By comparing the number of absences and the final grade, statistically significant relationships were found. The variables of gender and academic major were also examined to ascertain if they are factors. Interesting conclusions were made as well as implications for practice.

Zeroing In On Net-Zero: From Soft Law To Hard Law In Corporate Climate Change Pledges, Daniel C. Esty, Nathan De Arriba-Sellier
University of Colorado Law Review
One hundred and ninety-seven nations endorsed a target of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by midcentury in the 2021 Glasgow Climate Pact. As countries around the world have begun to develop their plans for deep decarbonization, it has become evident that the private sector will need to deliver much of what is required for the transition to an environmentally sustainable economy. The commitment to net-zero emissions by the year 2050 has therefore cascaded to the corporate world, leading hundreds of major companies to make their own net-zero GHG pledges. What constitutes a meaningful net-zero corporate pledge, however, remains unclear—and what …

Validation Of A Diagnostic Marker For Primocane-Fruiting In Blackberry, Isabella Vaughn, Alexander Silva, Carmen Johns, Lacy Nelson, Margaret Worthington
Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
Typical blackberries (Rubus subgenus Rubus) have perennial crowns and roots and biennial canes. The first-year canes (primocanes) are usually vegetative, while second-year canes (floricanes) produce fruit. Primocane-fruiting blackberries produce fruit on first-year canes and are desirable to growers because they potentially allow for a longer harvest season in temperate regions and enable production in tropical areas where no natural chill hours are accumulated. The development of molecular markers for desirable traits can potentially increase efficiency in blackberry breeding. However, to date, there are no diagnostic molecular markers for economically important traits in blackberries. Primocane-fruiting is recessively inherited, and tetraploid blackberries …
Dollars That Devalue Are Unconstitutional, Christopher Guzelian
Dollars That Devalue Are Unconstitutional, Christopher Guzelian
St. Mary's Law Journal
This Article demonstrates the United States dollar has been unconstitutional since at least the Civil War. Congresses and central bankers often weaken its value. In a previous article, the Author demonstrated that the largely valueless dollar causes human poverty and environmental damage. If Congress restores the dollar’s constitutionality by returning to a silver dollar coin standard of adequate value (at least 371.25 grains of fine silver per dollar), human economies and the environment will become more sustainable.

The purpose of this project was to help children reach more developmental goals and to make outdoor play at the Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center more inclusive for all children. Children gain many developmental goals from playing outside and being exposed to other environments as compared to just being inside the classroom. Outdoor play should be as inclusive as indoor play and offer many different activities and outlets, just as the indoor classroom does. The implementation of this service-learning creative project was to add more versatility to the outdoor area at the University of Arkansas Jean Tyson Child Development …
Learning From Mistakes: A Guide To Expanding The Oversight Board, Kevin Frazier
Learning From Mistakes: A Guide To Expanding The Oversight Board, Kevin Frazier
Catholic University Journal of Law and Technology
More than 4.4 billion people use social media. A few platforms attract a significant number of those users—for example, 2.9 billion people use Facebook, 2.3 billion use YouTube, and 1.2 billion use WeChat. How these major platforms govern themselves with respect to content moderation has an impact on billions of users and may lead to policy changes across other platforms that affect billions more. That is why it is so important to analyze Meta’s Oversight Board—an independent body created for the purpose of “promot[ing] free expression by making principled, independent decisions regarding content on Facebook and Instagram by issuing recommendations …

New Frontiers In Technology: Can Traditional Intellectual Property Rights Laws Be Adapted And Applied To Nfts?, Mariyah S. Wakhariya
Catholic University Journal of Law and Technology
A decade ago, ‘NFTs’ were rarely heard of or known to anyone, unless they worked in or kept up with the tech world. However, they are not new - they have been around for almost two decades. Their popularity has grown over the past few years. ‘NFT’ stands for ‘non-fungible token’. An NFT is a digital file with a unique identity that is verified on a blockchain and is therefore not interchangeable - i.e., a kind of crypto asset, like an authentication certificate for digital artifacts. In theory, NFTs can represent almost any real or intangible property. These days, it …
Ads-B Communication Interference In Air Traffic Management, George Ray
Ads-B Communication Interference In Air Traffic Management, George Ray
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Automated Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) provides position and state information about aircraft and is becoming an essential component in the global air traffic management system. ADS-B transponders broadcast this key information on a common frequency to both other aircraft and to secondary surveillance radar systems located at ground stations. Both the aircraft transponders and the ground stations work together to assist in managing the commercial airspace. Since the aircraft transponders all broadcast on the same frequency and are in close proximity there is an apparent risk of interference and the garbling of the communications needed to manage the airspace.

The Impact Of Private Equity Investment On The Market Performance Of Listed Companies On The A-Share Market In China, Mengyu Zhan, Sorasart Sukcharoensin
DLSU Business & Economics Review
This study aims to analyze all the Chinese Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) during 2010–2014 and follow their performance for five years. The study particularly tests the competing hypotheses on the role of Chinese private equity. The sample includes 916 firms that operate continuously for five years after IPOs to provide additional evidence on long-term performance. The results using the BHARs method indicate that private equity-backed IPOs tend to have significantly higher initial returns than non-PE-backed ones during three years of listing, supporting the screening and monitoring effect hypothesis in China’s capital market. After three years, the market performance of PE-backed …

Food Or Fairness? An Ultimatum Game Concerning A College Student’S Budget, Ethan Flowers, Matthew J. Wiser, Alan F. Chow
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
The influence of personal establishment and satisfaction has been the theoretical influence underlying conventional economics since proposed by Adam Smith. Results from many previous ultimatum experiments, which dictate that both parties must mutually agree on an ultimatum in order to win the game, often contradict the theories and ideals presented by conventional economic models. In this replication of the ultimatum experiment, instead of a minimal amount of $10 as the evaluating increment as used by past experiments, we have examined college students’ allocation decisions when presented the estimated cost of food for an entire month. This data will then be …

Cross-Generational Effects Of Workplace Spirituality On Employee Job And Life Satisfaction, Bobbie Bannerman, Robin Snipes
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
Since the 1990’s, the concept of workplace spirituality has grown in popularity.Contrary to the public notion of spirituality, workplace spirituality does not have much to dowith organized religion but more with the connectedness one has with other people at work.During the COVID-19 pandemic this sense of connectedness has waned, leaving employees witha lower attachment to their organizations. Workplace spirituality has been correlated withemployee job satisfaction, which impacts productivity, customer satisfaction, turnover, andultimately the firm’s bottom line. Job satisfaction also has an impact on one’s overall lifesatisfaction. Results of this study suggest that employee age may moderate the relationshipbetween workplace spirituality …

Interdependence And Group Effectiveness In Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Lisa G. Cooley, Conrad Puozaa
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
This study examines the impact of interdependence on group effectiveness in entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs). Relying on survey data from 156 entrepreneurial support organizations (ESOs) throughout the United States, the study finds that goal interdependence fosters effectiveness in EEs. The study did not find any evidence in support of taskinterdependence as a precursor for group effectiveness. Specifically, a unit change in goal interdependence leads to a 0.18 unit change in EEs effectiveness measured on a 5-point Likert scale. Interestingly, while the study shows that older ESOs are less effective, those belonging to older ecosystems generate better outcomes for their members; for …

Are Social Media Users Blindly Following Influencers’ Recommendations On Investing?, Zuliani Dalimunthe, Ananda Chairunnisa, Rachmadi Agus Triono
The Indonesian Capital Market Review
Previous studies show that general information shared by an influencer through social media has been received without sufficient validity testing. However, hardly any study has evaluated whether a stock recommendation by a social media influencer will also be followed blindly. This study evaluates the impact of the credibility of stock influencers on investors’ intention to invest in recommended stocks and whether the relationship can be explained by the perception that the influencer has inside infor- mation or is solely due to fear of missing out (FoMO). This study uses primary data from investors in the Indonesian model market. We collected …

The Indonesian Capital Market Review
The development of Financial Technology (FinTech) in Islamic banks has not brought increasing us- ers. Therefore, it is necessary to determine which factors influence intention to use FinTech from the demand side or the customers’ side. For this study, we chose mobile banking as our research object, considering that the largest digital transactions in Islamic banks come from mobile banking. Mobile banking also provides banks various benefits to banks such as increased long-term profitability, cus- tomer loyalty, and financial inclusion. The objective of this study is to observe the determinant factor by using the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and …

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
Wastewater-recovered phosphorus (P), in the form of the mineral struvite (MgNH4PO4∙6H2O), may provide a sustainable alternative to decreasing rock-phosphate reserves. Struvite can be generated via precipitation methods, potentially reducing the amount of P runoff to aquatic ecosystems. The objective of this greenhouse tub study was to evaluate the effects of chemically and electrochemically precipitated struvite (CPST and ECST, respectively) on aboveground plant response in a hybrid rice cultivar grown using furrow-irrigation compared to other common fertilizer-P sources [i.e., triple super phosphate (TSP) and diammonium phosphate (DAP)] using three replications of fertilizer treatment in a P-deficient silt loam (Typic Glossaqualfs). Aboveground …

Source Credibility In The Community Service Of Financial Literacy For Indonesian Vocational School Students, Neneng Salmiah, Afred Suci, Rita Wiyati
ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement
This paper examines the credibility of source persons for community service projects in improving financial literacy for vocational school students in Indonesia. Improving financial literacy among Indonesian youth is a long-term effort that requires multi- collaboration between the government, financial institutions, educational institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Despite its substandard position to Singapore, Myanmar, and Malaysia, Indonesia’s financial literacy proficiency has improved significantly—one of which—after being catalyzed by the government’s cooperation with higher education institutions through community service programs. However, amid these improvements, greater attention must be given to capital markets, whose literacy level is most deficient compared to the …

Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, many hospitals suffered from a surge of some high-risk inpatients needing to be admitted to the ICU. In this study, we propose a method
predicting the likelihood of COVID-19 inpatients’ admission to the ICU within a time frame of 12 hours. Four steps, the Bayesian Ridge Regression-based missing value imputation, the synthesis of training samples by the combination of two rows (the first and another row) of each patient, customized oversampling, and XGBoost classifier, are used for the proposed method. In the experiment, the AUC-ROC and F-score of our method is compared with those of other …
