JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies program will host five nights of music at the Down Home in Johnson City from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.
These end-of-semester performances kick off with the Country Band Showcase on Friday, Nov. 30. A mixture of different bluegrass, old-time and Celtic bands will take the stage on Saturday, Dec. 1, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 4-5. Bands led by students doing their capstone projects in band leadership will perform on Monday, Dec. 3.

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 1, 2018) – New courses in the Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) Program at East Tennessee State University are allowing students the flexibility to prepare for careers in the corporate sector.
The concentration in controllership began this fall and reflects the emerging role of accountants to aid in financial consultations and decision-making in the corporate workplace. It also provides an alternative to the traditional career paths of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in audit or tax.

Atkins comes to ETSU following over 20 years of service at the University of Tennessee, including his most recent role as department head and professor in Branch Libraries and Collection Logistics. Atkins has also held leadership roles in Resource Sharing and Document Delivery as well as Access and Delivery Services. His deanship at ETSU will begin Jan. 1, 2019.

ABINGDON, Virginia – East Tennessee State University’s Department of Social Work will host two information sessions at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia, on its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
A Master of Social Work Information Session will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5-7 p.m. Attendees will learn about the educational foundation needed for careers in social work, including the educational requirements to begin supervision toward the licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) designation post-graduation.

During the past four decades, the Archives of Appalachia has acquired a world-class repository of more than 800 collections, 84,000 sound recordings and nearly 8,000 moving images, making it one of the world’s leading regional archives.

JOHNSON CITY – The Gray Fossil Site and Museum will hold a Fossil Celebration Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Darack Nanto is many things. He’s an inventor, a graduate student, a personal trainer, an Olympic hopeful and a leader. He’s determined to show those in his home country of Togo that he can succeed at both his academic and athletic aspirations. Darack is building a prototype of his invention, the Eco Smart Can, while balancing his time between graduate classes and training to become an Olympic athlete. His goal is to become the first person from Togo to compete in bobsled skeleton at the winter games in 2022.

JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University has activated its ETSU Response website to provide information on support for those affected by the Oct. 27 shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, which left 11 dead and numerous others injured.
The website, www.etsu.edu/response, helps connect students, faculty and staff who may have been affected by the tragedy to support services, including the ETSU Counseling Center, the Employee Assistance Program and BucsCARE. Leafless trees, patchy snow, empty warehouses and unmanned equipment dot the Hudson River’s edge. Dark clouds loom over a weathered yellow house rimmed with weeds, featuring an unwelcoming “Private Property” sign in the yard.

ETSU has teamed up with GiveCampus, a digital fundraising platform, to connect the community with active projects seeking financial support. Unlike other popular crowdfunding sites that do not allow campaigns to keep the money collected unless their fundraising goal is met, projects listed on the GiveCampus platform keep all accumulated donations.
