JOHNSON CITY (April 9, 2020) East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy has ranked first in the state for its Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency match rate, as well as 12th in the nation.
In total, nearly of half of the Class of 2020, 32 students, participated in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) match program for PGY1 positions, and 25 (78%) successfully matched.

Drawing professor Andrew Scott Ross was awarded a State Fellowship from South Arts, the nonprofit arts service organization advancing Southern vitality through the arts. Only nine artists from the southeast were selected to receive this prestigious award. All nine State Fellows will be featured in an exhibit at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, South Carolina, from March 21 – May 5, 2019.

JOHNSON CITY (January 7, 2019) – East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy has named Bruce Gannaway to serve as assistant dean of finance.
In this new position, Gannaway serves as the college’s chief financial officer and is responsible to the dean for all activities related to budget, personnel, finance and administration, and participates as a member of the college’s leadership team.

JOHNSON CITY— East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy welcomes several new residents who will be furthering their postgraduate pharmacy training in various practice settings over the next year.
Gatton alum Dr. Tucker Ensley (’19), of Asheville, North Carolina, was matched with the Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Community-Based Pharmacy Residency, a program created in partnership with Boone Drug and Healthcare in Boone, North Carolina. JOHNSON CITY – Two students at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy recently earned national research awards.
Yaa Anane (’20), from Arlington, Texas, was one of eight students across the nation who were selected as Student and Trainee Abstract Award winners by the 2019 Annual Meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP). As a Student Award Winner, she will be presented with a $1,000 honorarium and a complimentary registration to attend the ACCP Annual Meeting. Meet Rosie McVeigh
Rosie McVeigh, a native of Tennessee’s oldest town, Jonesborough, took a year and a half off between graduating from University School, located on the ETSU campus, and beginning her studies at ETSU. During that time, she traveled to Nicaragua, lived in Miami and worked as a model. The exhibit situates artists within a regional and national dialogue that spans time and socio-economic status. BFA alum, Jill Childress, has been awarded the Windgate Fellowship from the Center for Craft Creativity and Design. This fellowship is one of the most prestigious awards in the nation for undergraduate students focusing in craft-based media. With only 10 fellowships awarded per year, each recipient receives $15,000 in funding. Childress will be using the Windgate Fellowship award to continue her undergraduate exploration of bread/dough, baking, and its overlap with clay & ceramics.

On a trip this summer to Uganda, Gatton’s student group, led by Dr. Susie Crowe, learned very quickly that the resource-limited country didn’t have access to the same healthcare resources that they were used to having.
“The hospitals were frequently out of medications,” said Crowe, director of experiential education. “As pharmacists, we had to make other recommendations, like changing an antibiotic to something that was available, or reallocate resources or medications.”
While working with limited resources was a major challenge, the students soon understood how much they were learning from the experience.

Scientists know all of this thanks to the fossil-rich clays of the Gray Fossil Site, which preserve an ancient ecosystem that dates back around 5 million years. At that time, the site was a large pond surrounded by a lush forest.
