JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 16, 2021) – East Tennessee State University’s American Sign Language (ASL) program is planning a week-long slate of activities in recognition of September as Deaf Awareness Month.
“We have activities planned for everyone who wants to learn more about our language, culture, and ETSU’s ASL minor program itself,” said Stephanie Horvath, assistant professor.

It was, in fact, their textbook. And also their classroom.
The students were enrolled in the summer course, “City as Text,” offered by the ETSU Honors College. Students enrolled in “City as Text” included many Honors College students as well as leaders from the BUCS Academy Living-Learning Community.

(Sept. 10, 2021) Monday through Friday, ETSU student Carson Frizzell begins his day before sunrise – 5:45 a.m. to be exact.
By 6:30 a.m., he’s literally on the run. The ROTC cadet spends Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at PT, or physical training. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he is part of the Joe Callahan Running Club.

JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 9, 2021) – East Tennessee State University’s Dr. Gerardo Arceo-Gomez is a co-author of a study published Sept. 8 in the journal Nature examining the role of pollinators in the maintenance of diversity among flowering plants.
Arceo-Gomez was part of a team led by Dr. Na Wei of the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio, and Dr. Tia-Lynn Ashman of the University of Pittsburgh that conducted a National Science Foundation-funded study of a plant-pollinator system in the serpentine seep communities in northern California, which is a global biodiversity hotspot.
