The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS) received funds to create a task force to determine the best strategies to ensure that students have an opportunity to understand their discipline in a global context. The CEBS Global Pathways Initiative Committee created a generic module on globalization principles that can be integrated into any course in all program areas. These curriculum materials provide a basic introduction to existing knowledge regarding cultural competence. They are designed to provide instructors with accurate information that can easily be integrated into existing undergraduate and graduate-level courses, including courses in psychology and education. Introduction:

Western Kentucky University Library had a large two-level, but largely unused lobby that had once been the library’s entrance but had been closed as a new entrance was created. By 2002, it sat empty and all but devoid of human traffic just outside our Reference area. Also, in 2002, Reference statistics were down, as was Circulation and library usage in general. Dean Binder believed that with the renovation and development of this former lobby, the library would realize an increase in campus visibility and library usage would increase.

Corporate fraud is an all-too-common element in our society today. Unfortunately, many of those convicted of fraud end up with a seemingly light jail sentence. A possible explanation for this is that the judges could have many subconscious reasons to give lighter sentences in these cases than they do with other more violent cases. Since there are no strict guidelines for the sentencing of these “white-collar criminals,” the judge’s personal views can play a significant role. The purpose of this study was to provide a case example of one SME (small to medium-size enterprises) documented practices compared to the Baldrige Program’s Criteria for Performance Excellence (Criteria). This study evaluated the degree to which the case example organization practiced the philosophies and principles of the Criteria without direct knowledge of the Criteria. The researcher conducted evaluations by examining the case example organization’s strategic plan against the Criteria. Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 2767. Letters to Edwin W. Curd, Cave City, Kentucky, from shoe merchants J. Benckenstein and Company, Cincinnati, Ohio. The firm discusses the terms on which Curd should act as salesman for its goods, reports, discounts, payment of his traveling expenses, etc. The issues evidently became the subject of a legal dispute between the parties.

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 2764. Letters of Herbert C. Thorpe, General Manager and Assistant Treasurer, United States Gas, Coal, and Coke Company, to his wife and father. Writing from Sturgis and Paducah soon after his arrival in Kentucky from New Jersey, Thorpe describes the stresses of his new management responsibilities and the challenges to the company in the event of a miners’ strike, and criticizes the work ethic of the miners. Thorpe died in Paducah of typhoid fever on 31 July 1904.
