Values Of Females And Males In The East And West: Are They Similar Or Different?, Edward Francis Murphy, Regina A. Greenwood, Arnel Onesimo Uy

Understanding whether cross-cultural values are similar or different has become more important in an increasingly global marketplace. Yet, few studies have explored cross-cultural sex–based value structures. This study examines the values of 5,134 male and female working adults in three Eastern nations (Japan, Philippines, and Thailand) and three Western nations (United States, United Kingdom, and Iceland). For similarities, males and females more highly valued personal than social terminal values. For differences, males in the East more highly valued self-actualization/competence instrumental values. Females in both geographic groups placed higher importance on social terminal values than did males, supporting prior research.

Assuring Quality In The Delivery Of On-Line Classes, Jane Whitney Gibson, Susan Colaric, Julia Teahen, Michael Nastanski, Regina A. Greenwood

The symposium participants, all long-time online faculty and administrators, discuss various methods of assuring quality in the delivery of online classes. These methods include standardization of courses, utilizing online protocols for both students and faculty, developing faculty training programs, and reinforcing and evaluating faculty performance through peer mentoring and evaluation. Participants will include real-life experiences with the large online programs at their three institutions. The discussant will pull the symposium together with general comments and suggestions for other quality initiatives. Time for audience participation through a Q & A session will be provided.

Is The World Flat Or Spiky For Immigrant Entrepreneurs Creating Social Capital?, Ruth Clarke, Ramdas Chandra

This study uses social capital theory and strategic entrepreneurship theory to examine the extent to which Hispanic immigrant entrepreneurs create and employ social capital in their firms. Using a modified instrument created by the World Bank to measure social capital, we evaluate the amount and different dimensions of social capital possessed by a sample of 62 mid to small-sized entrepreneurs in a limited geography within the U.S. We find low levels of social capital among our respondents. To the extent that social capital exists, the majority of it seems to be derived from Hispanic sources rather than non-Hispanic sources. Further, …

Knowledge management has become one of the most important trends in business, yet many knowledge management initiatives fail. To understand the success and failure of knowledge management, firms must identify and assess the organizational capabilities required for the effort to prosper, which is the focus of this study. Literature has offered important theoretical grounding for this study with regard to organizational capability as a predictor of knowledge management effectiveness, but empirical examination is lacking. Despite the large volume of research in the area of loyalty-repurchase-satisfaction, the findings on the relationship between these variables are conflicting. It seems that links between loyalty, repurchase, and satisfaction are not fully understood yet.

The study provided the theoretical background on loyalty, repurchase, satisfaction, and their interrelationships. The Theory of Planned Behavior and the Expectation Confirmation Theory were discussed. The loyalty-repurchase differentiation with five contributing factors was addressed. From the literature review nine hypotheses were proposed.

This study examined the business results of companies that won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (NQA). It used performance data before and after the award to determine if there were significant differences in three key performance indices after

adoption of those business techniques that enabled these companies to win their NQA.

The three key indicators were return on assets (ROA), earnings per share (EPS) and the current ratio. The study examined the data in two ways; first tests were made by comparing company performance before and after winning an NQA. The second way of

This dissertation tackles the ageless human debate of the body versus the soul. Based on Kohlbergian theory, the multidisciplinary literature review advances the proposition that moral development proceeds in waves of referential egoism leading to nonreferential altruism that is couched in power--the apple of the eye.

Many inter organizational studies using the Defining Issues Test have compared moral maturity levels coming from various academic backgrounds. Previous studies have purported that education is the chief moderating variable for moral maturity, with little regard for paradigmatic bases of power.
