Dr. David Roane, from Ruston, Louisiana, joined Gatton College of Pharmacy in 2006 as the founding chair of the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His initial goals focused on hiring superior faculty and guiding the de novo development of the department. Previously, Dr. Roane served on faculty in the College of Pharmacy and chaired the Department of Biology as the DeGree endowed professor from 1989 to 2006 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. David Stewart, from Roan Mountain, Tennessee, joined the faculty of the department of pharmacy practice in 2007. Prior to his appointment of Assistant Professor at ETSU he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Stewart was promoted to Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2012 and Professor in 2018. Mindy Herrin Jewelry & Metals professor currently has an article published about her work in this month's Nashville Arts Magazine. Herrin is concurrently exhibitng the work at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, Tennessee. Narrative Illusions: The Visions of Mindy Herrin will be on display through April 30, 2018. Herrin’s three-dimensional work incorporates realism, organic imagery, and found objects in imaginative ways. There is a trance-like quality to her figures, and sculptures laden with symbolism act like puzzles, leaving the viewer to decipher her vision.

Professor Emeritus Mike Smith is currently exhibiting photographs at the Tracey Morgan Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina. The exhibit will run through November 3, 2018. The Lost State of Frankland features a selection of images that span over a decade, including recent works, that are a continuation of his career-long exploration of the character and culture of East Tennessee. Smith has visually investigated one place, remaining aesthetically aware of his surroundings in a manner that has allowed him to beautifully photograph the nuance of Eastern Tennessee over the span of almost 40 years. Faculty member Patricia Mink received the Suellen Wilkenson Best in Show award in the national juried exhibition Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie. The award was presented by the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, Indiana. The fiber work, entitled "Crazy" was initially produced as part of an ETSU Major RDC Research Grant.

Recent graduate of the ETSU Geosciences Department, Victoria Anderson, receives employment as an ArcGIS Analyst with ESRI! After several rigorous phone interviews and the final site visit interview Tori received the GOOD NEWS regarding employment. Tori entered ETSU in 2015 and immediately went to work! She excelled academically completing numerous honors courses, appearing on the Dean’s List, and graduating with honors. Dr. Brian Cross Named Fulbright Scholar

 

Dr. Brian Cross, associate professor and vice-chair of pharmacy practice, is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship award that has taken him to Ireland. Cross is spending several months overseas working with faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

The focus of his work will be interprofessional education and teaching others how to best provide team-based care. Cross was among six ETSU faculty and administrators to visit Ireland and Scotland last spring, serving as consultants and collaborators in interprofessional health care practice and education. Online doctoral education enrollment continues to rise, and the number of academic institutions who offer the degrees are increasing proportionately. Various types of institutions are involved in this growth, including those that are faith-based. Due to the competitive nature of all online doctoral degrees, including faith-based and secular programs, it is imperative to understand the needs and concerns of the students who enroll in such programs. Students enrolled in a faith-based university online doctoral program were surveyed regarding their concerns about online doctoral education. Accounting professors will now be accountable for teaching their students to think critically, analyze, and evaluate information. The pressure to change accounting higher education cannot be ignored with the new version of the CPA exam, released in April 2017, which now tests analysis and evaluation skills. Have the professors made the changes in their classrooms that will help their students to be successful with this format of questioning?
