Whereas prior research on artificial intelligence has dealt with automation in fields like medicine, engineering, and computer science, this research study seeks to answer the question, “To what extent can AI be creative in the context of content strategy?” To answer this, this study employs content analysis using 16 online news and blog articles from primarily marketing organizations to identify and explain key variables surrounding the relationship between the computer and the creative professional. Advertising often employs metaphor because of its rhetorical utility. By drawing on analogous imagery and language, metaphor has the potential to elicit emotional responses. As the digital age is increasingly saturated with commercial messaging, advertising experts leverage the persuasive power of metaphor and emotion to produce creative, compelling, and memorable commercials. German automobile company Audi employs metaphorical language and imagery in their video advertisements to arouse consumer emotions. Emotional Appeals In Nonprofit Advertising: A Rhetorical Analysis Of Print Ads By The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation And The American Cancer Society, Dominique N. A. Harrison

Emotional appeals are frequently employed in strategic messaging by nonprofit organizations. In this study, I identify instances of emotional appeals in select print adverts of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society, and use rhetorical analysis to explore how each organization’s tactics are strategic in their appeal to target audiences’ emotions. In doing so, I identify several reoccurring emotional themes—including hope, love, and unity—that engage their target audiences and persuade them to respond to diverse calls-to-action. JOHNSON CITY (April 27, 2020) – Dr. Scott Champney, professor emeritus in East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, has recently published a monograph describing 20 years of research on a novel antibiotic target.
Champney taught in ETSU’s Department of Biomedical Sciences for 31 years. His paper, “Antibiotics Targeting Bacterial Ribosomal Subunit Biogenesis,” was published as the lead article in the April 2020 issue of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.

JOHNSON CITY (April 22, 2020) – The COVID-19 crisis is creating unprecedented work experience for several East Tennessee State University social work students who are helping their fellow students with challenges related to the pandemic.
Every year, ETSU provides three graduate assistantships to Master of Social Work students who are interested in serving as either Undergraduate or Graduate Student Success Specialists (USSS or GSSS). Their day-to-day responsibilities include assisting students with managing obstacles, resolving problems and finding support, locating services on campus and in the community and setting realistic personal goals.

The university recently approved a new 3+1 degree completion program for biology and chemistry majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and health sciences majors in the College of Public Health.

Students choose one or two programs to study – Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and/or After Effects – and then take the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) exam. JOHNSON CITY (April 13, 2020) – East Tennessee State University’s Tipton Gallery and Slocumb Galleries have earned two awards in the 2020 Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) Awards of Excellence competition for a series of exhibits highlighting diversity.
The honors, which were presented in the budget category of $50,000-$200,000, were the Award of Excellence for Temporary Exhibit and the Award of Commendation for Publication, Book/Catalog/Annual Report.
