JOHNSON CITY (May 21, 2021) – The Tennessee Climate Office at East Tennessee State University, in partnership with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information and the American Association of State Climatologists, will host Tennessee’s inaugural Climate Data Summit on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25-26, via Zoom.
This event features two afternoons of sessions focusing on climate data services for the state of Tennessee and the surrounding region. Participants will have opportunities before, during and after the event to provide information about their unique climate-related needs.

JOHNSON CITY (May 18, 2021) – Tri-Cities area civic and business resource organizations, including the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, have partnered with Proof Incubator, a Tennessee-based accelerator and educational resource for food and beverage professionals, to launch a four-week course for restaurants impacted by COVID-19.
“Restaurant Resilience” will launch in June. This virtual course is for owners and operators of restaurants and foodservice businesses. It provides the tools and resources to help adjust restaurant business models in response to the global pandemic and customers’ changing needs and expectations.

- ETSU Health will offer the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on May 19, 20 and 21, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on the second floor of the D.P. Culp Student Center. (May 13, 2021) Cori Crocker is part of the growing and supportive Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) community at East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health.
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Crocker majored in marine science and minored in French at the University of South Carolina. When she graduated, she began looking for opportunities that married these two interests and decided to join the Peace Corps as a secondary-education volunteer in the West African country of Guinea.

The certification is designed to prepare students to utilize knowledge of genetics, genomics, epigenetics, pharmacogenetics, genetic testing and genetic counseling in their practice. This study examines the Chicago Board Option Exchange (CBOE) Volatility Index (VIX) which is the implied volatility calculated from short-term option prices on the Standards & Poor’s 500 stock index (S&P 500). Findings suggest VIX overestimates average volatility by approximately 3% but explains 55% of S&P 500’s proceeding month’s volatility. The implied volatility (IV) from options on the VIX add additional explanatory power for the S&P’s 500 proceeding kurtosis values (a measure of tail risk). The VIX option’s volatility smirks did not add additional explanatory power for explaining the S&P 500 volatility or kurtosis. A simple trading rule based on …

JOHNSON CITY (May 8, 2021) – East Tennessee State University continued its four-day Commencement celebration on Saturday as degrees were presented to graduates of the colleges of Nursing, Public Health, and Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences and the Clemmer College.
