Employee’S Willingness To Engage In Information Security Incident Reporting, Ryan Moodley, Salah Kabanda Aug 2025

Employee’S Willingness To Engage In Information Security Incident Reporting, Ryan Moodley, Salah Kabanda

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Organisations employ several strategies for mitigating insider threats, and yet recent studies have shown that insider threats continue to surge. Strategies are mostly reliant on technological solutions and more recently, a human centered approach where the focus is on psychological profile and behavioural habits of the individual posing the threat (the insider). The role of employees in reporting the insider or in the reporting of security incidents has received limited attention. This paper, through a literature review synthesis, identifies the factors influencing an employee’s willingness to report an insider and consequently reporting of security incidents. Through a thematic analysis of …

Efficacy Of Fintech Solutions In Advancing Financial Inclusion For The Underserved In South Africa: A Systematic Literature Review, Tebogo S. Legodi, Adheesh Budree

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Financial inclusion in South Africa is a critical mechanism for addressing systemic poverty, unemployment, and inequality. Fintech solutions have increasingly been positioned as key enablers of expanded access to financial services, particularly among underserved populations. However, there remains a lack of literature that evaluates the efficacy, rather than merely the impact, of these technologies. This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of 21 peer-reviewed articles, policy documents, and industry reports to examine how Fintech advances financial inclusion in South Africa. The literature is synthesised into four thematic categories: Financial Inclusion (Concepts and Metrics); Fintech in South Africa and Global …

Smart Mobility Technologies In Urban Areas Of Emerging Economies: A Bibliometric Analysis, Peter Mugisha, Rose Luke, Joash Mageto, Hossana Twinomurinzi

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Despite the adoption of smart mobility solutions in emerging economies, challenges such as traffic congestion, pollution and inadequate infrastructure still persist. This study analyses 540 scholarly articles published between 2003 and 2024 to evaluate how smart mobility technologies – such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) – have been implemented in these regions. Data was retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science and analysed using Biblioshiny for bibliometric mapping and Atlas.ti for thematic analysis. The review identifies research trends and gaps, showing how ITS has improved transport management in cities like Nairobi, and …

Applying Detective Analytics For Mitigating Financial Crime In An Organisation, Nontobeko Mlambo, Tiko Iyamu

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Despite the growing popularity of detective analytics, it is consistently challenging to understand the factors that influence the adoption. This is increasingly discouraging organisations, even though the tool is important for tracing, tracking, and mitigating financial crime. This study applied concepts of ‘follow the actors’ and shifting negotiation of actor-network theory (ANT) to gain a better understanding of the factors that influence the adoption of detective analytics in a qualitative case study using a South African-based financial organisation. From the analysis, integration of analytics tools, integration of detective analytics with other systems and processes, development of a template for each …

The results show that the variables are not stationary at their levels, while their first differences are stationary. The CUSUM of squares test was employed to check the stability of the model parameters, and the Johansen test was used for cointegration. Dynamic Least Squares (DOLS) was used for regression analysis. Overall, the results indicate that the turnover ratio …

Sport Employees And Resilience: An Examination Of Organizational Change With Ncaa Conference Realignment, Hailee Hernandez, Claire C. Zvosec, Brent D. Oja

Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics

NCAA conference membership is critically important to institutions as it is closely associated with revenue generation (i.e., conference-wide revenue distribution, ticket sales, fundraising, etc.) in addition to institutional visibility and prestige. Therefore, universities may pursue conference realignment opportunities based on higher potential revenue, institutional and athletics financial stability, and increased notoriety. Over the past 20 years, there have been at least 80 cases of schools moving conferences at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. As universities move conferences, employees within the athletics department are exposed to rapid change in organizational structure and are forced to adapt to new institutional, athletics …

Name, Image, And Likeness: A Critical Exploration Through Self-Determination Theory, Molly Harry Aug 2025

Name, Image, And Likeness: A Critical Exploration Through Self-Determination Theory, Molly Harry

Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics

Through Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this study explored college athletes’ experiences with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). Analyzing congressional testimonies from 10 current and recently graduated college athletes, this research highlighted how NIL fostered/constrained athlete development within the broader power structures of college sport. Findings revealed while NIL enhances self-determination through autonomy, competence, and relatedness, institutional discourses and governance mechanisms continue to regulate athlete development. Through Fairclough’s (1995) CDA framework, this study demonstrated how language throughout the athletes’ testimonies maintained/disrupted power dynamics which reinforced/challenged authority of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The integration of SDT and …

When Positive Sentiment Is Not So Positive: Textual Analytics And Bank Failures, Aparna Gupta, Cheng Lu, Majeed Simaan, Mohammed J. Zaki

Department of Accounting and Finance Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

We examine U.S. publicly traded bank holding companies (BHCs) that failed during the 2007–2009 global financial crisis. Using consolidated data at the BHC level and 10-K filings, we investigate the determinants of bank failures during this period using nonlinear machine learning (ML). The in-sample analysis demonstrates that 90% of the failed banks can be classified during 2007–2009. In addition, our sensitivity analysis for interpretable ML shows that net tone is among the top five important features. However, the power of tone/text is less evident when we consider predictive (out-of-sample) analysis. While nonlinear ML models such as random forest and support …

Decreasing Organizational Knowledge Loss With Collaborative Learning Teams, Sandy Laurence Lembree Aug 2025

Decreasing Organizational Knowledge Loss With Collaborative Learning Teams, Sandy Laurence Lembree

JWU Dissertations & Theses

Knowledge in organizations continues to be lost during attrition (Cox & Overbay, 2023). The Baby Boomers are retiring (Cox & Overbay, 2023), younger generations move (Brown, 2023), and self-interested employees hide knowledge (Ahmad & Karim, 2019; Anand et al., 2022) Collaborative learning teams (CLTs) increase knowledge transfer, which retains organizational knowledge (Ahmad & Karim, 2019). This mixed methods research was undertaken to investigate what contributors made a group in an organization into a CLT. Autonomy, competence development, group relatedness, psychological safety, shared goals and objectives, and leadership collaboration encouragement were explored for their relationships with being a CLT. Experiences were …
