Focuses on the quantification of the magnitude of error when the mathematical function for present value is ignored and interpolation is used to determine the discount factor in the time valuation of cash flows. Length of discounting period; Linear interpolation between table present value factors for periodic interest rate and same interest rate plus one per cent; Sensitivity of maximum error timing to interest rate.

Professional studies courses often focus on mastering a common body of knowledge but ignore student interaction and the development of critical thinking and communication skills. In a cost accounting course at Connecticut's Sacred Heart University offered in fall 1993, various group and individual activities were implemented to incorporate these skills into the course. The requirements of the course included two quizzes, a computer project, class participation and activities, and a final examination. This article discusses theoretical models for effective interpersonal communication in the intranational workplace for public sector managers in the U.S. Effective communication is complete when the message has been understood. A message has been understood when it has been both clearly sent and received. Effective communication is a requisite to every step in the organizational process--from the mutual recognition and understanding of a topic or problem that triggered the communication in the first place to its final resolution. The Effects Of Corporate Strategy And Workplace Innovations On Union Representation, Thomas A. Kochan, Robert B. Mckersie, John Chalykoff

This paper explores the decline of union membership within partially organized firms. Using data from two Conference Board surveys of labor relations practices (1977 and 1983), the authors test a series of propositions concerning the effects of corporate industrial relations values and strategies and workplace innovations on union representation and membership. The results show that whereas the average firm reduced the number of workers represented by unions by approximately 977 from 1977 to 1983, firms that placed a high priority on union avoidance reduced union representation by an average of 2,647 workers over the same period. This article provides the reader with guidance on the effective selection and use of wage and salary surveys to assure the availability of accurate data to which the firm's rates of pay can be compared. This paper has concentrated on the need for and method of careful selection of survey data, with the intent of assuring the greatest possible degree of comparability and accuracy in the data, prior to statistical analysis. The method of selection is important because even the most careful analysis of bad data produces only more bad data.
