We study a novel newsvendor-type problem where the information on demand quantity is not exogenously given. The customer needs to make the booking decision based on her estimation on demand, which is affected by the value of shortage penalty cost. The problem is motivated by low-cost airline service practices where passengers need to book baggage allowance for their travel. The baggage overweight price affects the accuracy of passengers’ baggage weight estimation and thus their booking quantities. Through stochastic decision models, we analytically characterize the impact of shortage penalty cost on passengers’ booking decisions as well as airline’s profit. We consider …

The growing population in cities and booming e-commerce activities create huge demand for urban last-mile delivery, exerting intense pressure on the cities' well-being. To keep congestion and pollution under control, a consolidator can operate an urban consolidation center (UCC) to bundle shipments from multiple carriers before the last-mile delivery. Alternatively, the consolidator can operate a peer-to-peer platform for the carriers to share delivery capacity. We provide guidance for the consolidator to choose between these two business models by comparative analysis. With the rapid growth of sustainable and responsible investment and widespread adoption of the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting and integration by organizations, how to assess and measure ESG impact has become a critical issue. Although the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a useful framework for investors and organizations globally to align their standards, the SDGs are vague on how to implement them at an organizational or activity level. Recent literature has advocated for the use of project based learning to engage students in active learning. This study examines how students’ learning of cultural intelligence and digital literacy are enhanced through an overseas project-based learning (PBL) programme at a Singapore University (UNIS), called the UNIS-XO pedagogy. Specifically, this study provides a framework through which students, faculty members, and industry partner can collaborate through consulting programs with the aim to provide feasible recommendations to the clients. Purpose: One of the main obstacles facing project-based learning (PBL) adoption relates to a lack of understanding by teachers and students in the roles they are required to play in the learning process. This study aims to address this obstacle, so as to better promote regular adoption of PBL pedagogy in educational institutions. The problem under study was lack of scholarly research on the effect leader emotional intelligence (EI) has on follower self-efficacy during change management. This study provided findings on the three overarching themes of EI, organizational change, and self-efficacy. Each theme was examined individually and then how they are interrelated. The researcher provided a detailed overview of how the interviews were conducted then subsequently coded and analyzed. Although leader humor is a growing research topic, there are still unaddressed issues surrounding this topic. In particular, there is disagreement surrounding the conceptualizations of positive and negative leader humor, conflicting theoretical predictions and empirical findings on the effects of leader humor, a dearth of research on the antecedents and correlates of leader humor, as well as a lack of research on the boundary conditions of these relationships. This qualitative and quantitative review of the nomological networks of positive and negative leader humor addressed these issues based on a meta-analysis of 67 empirical studies (N = 21,121). This research seeks to identify and analyze emerging trends in the Chinese counterfeit pharmaceutical trade, extending from the supply chain’s point of origin to domestic and overseas retail dispensary. To aid readability, Chapter 1 of this thesis opens with key conclusions and policy recommendations for various Chinese and U.S. stakeholders based on the shortcomings identified in Chapter 5. Leading Economic Indicator Reports
The LEI-N rose by 1.05% during February 2021. The indicator has risen during each of the last five months, suggesting that the Nebraska economy will expand solidly through the summer of 2021. In February, the leading indicator primarily rose due to increased manufacturing activity and strong business expectations. There was a large increase in manufacturing hours worked and respondents to the February Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase sales and employment over the next six months. Airline passenger counts also rose modestly, while there was a small decline in initial claims for unemployment insurance on a seasonally-adjusted basis. …

Commodity Futures Returns And Policy Uncertainty, Deepa Bannigidadmath, Paresh Kumar Narayan

This paper investigates whether economic policy uncertainty is predictable using three sets of commodity futures market variables, namely the equal-weighted average of futures excess returns, the excess returns on a portfolio of going long in backwardated commodities, and the excess returns on a portfolio of going short in contango commodities as predictors. We find significant evidence of both in-sample and out-of-sample predictability. Combination forecasts also reveal strong evidence of predictability. Our findings remain unchanged following several robustness tests.

Using a dataset of 2,229 scholarly outputs from the Web of Science on the sharing economy (SE), our scientometric review provides a taxonomy of the current research on the SE in terms of their contributions, theories, and methods utilized in existing studies. The review also highlights a typology of the inter-related concepts of the SE. We demonstrate four clusters of existing research: freelance work and its implications, transportation and solutions for the sustainable development of the SE, user experience and collaborative consumption, and the SE in the context of hospitality and tourism. A specific concern for many park managers is the generation of waste by visitors. One way to combat this issue in national parks is to encourage visitors to put their litter in a bin. This study investigates binning behaviour, as a type of pro-environmental behaviour, of visitors to Yanchep National Park, Australia. Using structural equation modelling, this study tested an integrated structural model combining the theory of planned behaviour and the norm-activation model with data from 219 visitors to this park. This study aimed to Performance Comparison of Neural Networks (MLP, RBFNN, ERNN, JRNN) Models for the time series data of a monthly Stock Prices to Bank of Palestine from Nov. 2005 to Oct. 2020, and comparing between models to see which one is better in forecasting. The results of applying the methods were compared through the (MAPE, MAE, RMSE), the most accurate model is ERNN 14-25-1 with minimum forecast measure error.

الغرض من البحث الحالي هو معرفة علاقة الوضوح الاستراتيجي والمتمثل بـ(وضوح الانشطة والاجراءات, ووضوح الاهداف, ووضوح استعمال الموارد, و وضوح دور الموظفين, ووضوح الهيكل التنظيمي, و وضوح الادوار القيادية) التي تمتلكها العينة المدروسة, في المنظمات الريادية و المتمثلة بـ (الاستقلالية, والابداعية, والاستباقية, وتحمل المخاطرة), واعتمد البحث على الاستبانة كأداة رئيسة لجمع البيانات الضرورية واللازمة لتحقيق هدفها. اذ تم توزيع (67) استمارة لتحديد مستوى توافر الوضوح الاستراتيجي والمنظمات الريادية, وعليه تم استخدام (55) استمارة صالحة للتحليل، فضلا عن انه تم استعمال مجموعة من الاساليب الاحصائية متمثل بالوسط الحسابي الموزون، والانحراف المعياري، ومعامل الارتباط البسيط بيرسون، ومعامل الانحدار البسيط. وأظهرت نتائج البحث …

هدفت الدراسة الي تناول التغيرات الهيكلية في بيئة المحاسبة الداخلية والخارجية ودورها في ممارسات المحاسبة الإبداعية. وتمثلت مشكلة الدراسة في التغيرات الهيكلية في عوامل بيئة المحاسبة، والتغيرات في ضوابط سلوك وأخلاقيات المهنة وما تسببه تلك التغيرات من خلل يتم استغلاله كمدخل لممارسات المحاسبة الإبداعية. وتوصلت الدراسة الي عدم وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين التغيرات الهيكلية في بيئة المحاسبة وممارسات المحاسبة الإبداعية. حيث أظهرت نتائج التحليل الإحصائي للدراسة أن اقل قيمة لعبارات الفرضية الأولى حسب تحليل مربع كاي تساوي (1.035) عند درجة حرية (42)، بمستوى دلالة (.000) وهي أكبر من 0.05 ودالة إحصائياً وهو ما يؤكد صحة الفرضية “تجود علاقة …
