Financial Safety Nets, Bank Risk And Depositor Behaviour In Central And Eastern Europe, Dorota Skała

We studied expansions in financial safety nets and their relation to bank risk and depositor behaviour in Central and Eastern Europe, using time-varying regulatory data. In general, we find that stronger deposit insurance and state aid granted to banks are linked with both bank risk and depositor behaviour. However, these relations critically depend on whether safety net instruments are used separately or simultaneously. When deposit insurance is strengthened or state aid is granted, we confirm the standard moral hazard behaviour of banks visible in higher bank risk. In parallel, we observe more elevated deposit growth, implying lower market discipline. Conversely, …

This study examines the dynamic connectedness and spillover effects among various financial and economic indicators, including uncertainty indices, market volatility, and stock market indices, from 3 June 2008, to 30 December 2024. This interconnectedness implies that shocks originating in one market or asset class can rapidly transmit to others, underscoring the potential for systemic risk and financial contagion. The US emerges as a significant net transmitter of influence within the global financial system, with the VIX playing a crucial role in influencing global financial conditions. Many developing countries are planning to create new capital cities, a place-making policy designed to alleviate congestion and respond to climate change. To evaluate growth and welfare effects, we specify a dynamic quantitative spatial model with public employment, informality, fiscal transfers, and frictions in trade and migration. We calibrate the model with data from Indonesia and conduct policy experiments studying the creation of Nusantara in East Kalimantan. Despite increasing employment in the new capital region, we find that building Nusantara reduces national growth and welfare. Climate change attenuates its negative welfare effects, but only slightly.

Mobility matches open housing markets. With constrained mobility and partially open housing markets, market responses reflect the constraints. We study this mechanism by examining disparity in access to public schools across socio-economic groups, focusing on properties near primary schools accessible to migrant students under social integration policies in a Chinese megacity. Using a difference-in-differences approach, we uncover complex spatial and market dynamics: while house prices close to ordinary primary schools remained relatively stable, house prices farther away declined markedly. This differential impact suggests the interaction between a potential "peer effect" and an "amenity effect." The rental rates showed little change …

Understanding generational differences in engagement with Management Trainee (MT) programs is crucial for talent development, yet comparative studies linking these experiences to employee retention are limited. This study addressed this gap by investigating the distinct motivations and retention drivers of Filipino Gen Z and Millennial graduates from the MT program. Using a qualitative research design, in-depth interviews were conducted with six professionals (three Gen Z and three Millennials) who completed structured MT programs in Philippine-based organizations. This qualitative study explores the college experiences of Black women college athletes at a predominantly White institution (PWI), focusing on how intersecting oppressions and stereotypes influence their academic, social, and athletic lives. How do CEOs’ personality biases and motivational heuristics influence innovation in large firms? Because large-firm innovation is more common and less risky, overlooked factors—such as narcissism, self-monitoring, and promotion or prevention foci—become pivotal. Drawing on these traits, we found that narcissistic CEOs differ from self-monitoring CEOs in driving innovation. Moreover, the effect of self-monitoring CEOs depends on whether their regulatory focus is oriented toward promotion or prevention. However, this interplay between personality and motivation does not apply to narcissistic CEOs, suggesting that certain characteristics remain relatively fixed. This study examines how entrepreneurial personality traits influence business outcomes among underrepresented minority entrepreneurs in the United States. Specifically, it investigates the effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, locus of control, risk tolerance, and extraversion on entrepreneurial performance, as well as the moderating role of grit and the mediating role of business networking. Although underrepresented minority entrepreneurs contribute significantly to innovation and economic growth, they continue to face persistent barriers, including limited access to capital, mentorship, and supportive entrepreneurial ecosystems. This study examines how AI image generation systems perpetuate digital orientalism through systematic cultural representation patterns that increasingly shape global digital markets and international development discourse. Using visual social semiotics methodology, we conducted comparative analysis of Midjourney and ChatGPT platforms across nine culturally specific prompts examining religious imagery, contemporary social dynamics, and power structures in Indian cultural contexts. Our findings reveal that both platforms consistently reproduce colonial-era representational frameworks despite culturally sensitive prompting and advanced technical capabilities. Exploring The Bank Lending Channel: How Bank Characteristics Shape Monetary Policy Effectiveness, Filip Świtała

This paper examines how individual bank characteristics influence the transmission of monetary policy through the bank lending channel. Using panel data and a Fixed Effects model validated by the Hausman test, the author analyses how bank size, capitalization, profitability and asset quality affect responses to monetary tightening. The study highlights the importance of inter-bank differences in shaping monetary policy effectiveness and offers insights for regulatory frameworks and macroprudential policies aimed at strengthening financial stability.

According to both PE fit and IP theories, employee motivation, job satisfaction, and job performance are enhanced when individuals are compatible with various aspects of the workplace. This research study addressed the problem of lacking leadership development in the higher education industry and the reduction of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Increasing demands on higher education resulted in a need for improved leadership acumen across the industry, but inefficient and lacking development persists. A Community Advisory Committee comprised of nine members with lived experience of kidney failure, identified the need for a patient-facing version of a mental healthcare pathway for people receiving dialysis in Alberta, Canada. Recognizing that healthcare tools to support person-centred care practices should be available in lay language, our team (comprised of Community Advisors and healthcare clinicians and researchers) co-designed a patient-facing pathway: “Your Journey: Coping with and Adjusting to Dialysis.” The Provincial Pathways Unit provided a template for the pathway, and the content was adapted through multiple online and in-person meetings with the Community Advisors. This case study reviews the virtual discharge nurse (VDN) process and its impact on patient experience and nursing workflow as an exemplar of an effective telehealth innovation at a community hospital 23-bed Short Stay Unit (SSU). At the SSU, the daily turnover rate of more than 50% of the unit census challenged the nurses’ ability to provide comprehensive individualized discharge education. SSU patient experience scores measured by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) reflected opportunities to improve the discharge process.
