Green supply chain management and reverse logistics has emerged as a key area of research interest. Recent environmental regulations have also stimulated interest in this field. However, information sharing is a pre- requisite to efficient and effective logistics utilisation. Manufacturing organisations in China were argued to be 10-20 years behind their Western counterparts in relation to information sharing in their supply chains (Li and Yuan, 2009). A number of cities around the world have adopted urban consolidation centers (UCCs) to address challenges of last-mile deliveries. At the UCC, goods are consolidated based on their destinations prior to their deliveries into city centers. Typically, a UCC owns a fleet of ecofriendly vehicles to carry out such deliveries. Shippers/carriers that make use of the UCC’s service hence no longer need to be restricted by timewindow and vehicle-type regulations. As a result, they retain the ability to deploy large trucks for the economies of scale from the source to the UCC which is located outside the city center. Furthermore, …

Improving the quality of healthcare services available to patients and increasing the efficiency of treatment processes are two pressing needs of the U.S. healthcare system. Aside from extensive research on medicine and disease-specific cures, extant literature does not offer a comprehensive framework that considers all determinants of patient care quality. Prominent hotel chains quote a booking price for a particular type of rooms on each day and dynamically update these prices over time. We present a novel Markov decision process (MDP) formulation that determines the optimal booking price for a single type of rooms under this strategy, while considering the availability of rooms throughout the multiple-day stays requested by customers. We analyze special cases of our MDP to highlight the importance of modeling multiple-day stays and provide guidelines to potentially simplify the implementation of pricing policies around peak-demand events such as public holidays and conferences. The paper did a comparative analysis of the carbon emission and European Union Emission Trading Surcharges (EU ETS) of South African Airways (SAA) current fleet that used aviation jet A1 fuel and the same fleet if it had used a 25% bio-fuel ‘drop in’ for the European routes within the first quarter of the 2014 flying year (FY 14). Operational data in terms of the flight scheduled, aircraft type, total time enroute, route stage length, passenger estimates were obtained through SAA’s flight operations website. The purpose of this paper is to review logistics concepts used in macro freight transportation modeling by various planning agencies at the national, state and city level. The chronological development of freight modeling endeavors are studied here and the logistics component incorporated in the modeling is identified. The key modeling tools are identified and analyzed to identify the efficacy of the model, ease of use, and data required to implement the model. The purpose of the study is to propose a consolidated and comprehensive operational level framework of performance metrics to facilitate the supply chain integration in the service industry. Design/methodology/approach

In order to do so, we rely on a systematic review procedure to delineate and thus integrate the measures into factors. This paper draws upon prior work done on performance measure in supply chain integration.

Academia recognizes that although supply chains have an inherent need to be validated for their performance, supply chain performance measurement systems are still inadequate and one of the major barriers to successful supply chain collaboration. In this research, theory of Systems Architecture is used to make the first step towards an innovative supply chain performance measure defined as supply chain interoperability. Without the "container revolution" (1970-present) and its redesign of seaport and maritime-trade infrastructures, globalization as we know it would not exist. With the recent enlargements of the Panama and Suez Canals, many new implications for U.S. economic trade are unfolding. This presentation at the Commonwealth Club of California, outlines recent changes in world trade and infrastructure development, and poses five factors that will likely determine winners and losers in the unfolding developments of this highly competitive world trade-route system.

المستخلصهدفت هذه الدراسة إلى بيان أثر الخداع التسويقي على القرار الشرائي لزبائن المستشفيات الخاصة في مدينة عمان، ولتحقيق ذلك فقد قاما الباحثان بتصميم استبانة من أجل جمع البيانات الخاصة بالدراسة حيث قاما بتوزيعها على عينة الدراسة ومقدارها (500) مبحوثٍ جميعهم من زبائن المستشفيات الخاصة في مدينة عمان وقد شملت العينة جنسيات مختلفة من الزبائن ولم تقتصر على جنسية دون الأخرى. أظهرت: إن الخداع التسويقي في جميع المجالات يؤثر بشكل كبير على القرار الشرائي بجميع مراحله (ما قبل الشراء، الشراء، ما بعد الشراء) بنسبة بلغت (71.62%). كما تبين من التحليل أنه لا توجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى الدلالة (0.05=α) …

ملخص الدراسةتهتم الدراسة الحالية باستكشاف طبيعة تأثير معوقات تطبيق الإدارة الالكترونية على وظائف إدارة علاقات الزبون، اتخذت الدراسة من موظفي مصرف الرافدين عينة لها، حيث تم توزيع استمارة استبيان بواقع (60) استبانة (50) استبانة صالحة للتحليل و(10) استبانة غير صالحة أي نسبة استجابة تبلغ 83 % وجرى تحليل البيانات باستخدام الأساليب الإحصائية الملائمة (الأوساط الحسابية والانحرافات المعيارية والارتباط والانحدار). وبعد تحليل النتائج، أتضح وجود علاقة ارتباط وأثر بين معوقات تطبيق الإدارة الالكترونية وإدارة علاقات الزبون. وخرجت الدراسة بجملة من الاستنتاجات أهمها المحاولات جادة من قبل المصرف لتطبيق الإدارة الالكترونية لتسهيل إجراءات العمل الإداري وتقليل الوقت والجهد والسرعة في انجاز العمل. …

We consider a retailer with limited storage capacity selling n independent products. Each product is produced by a distinct manufacturer, who is offered a consignment contract with revenue sharing by the retailer. The retailer first sets a common revenue share for all products, and each manufacturer then determines the retail price and production quantity for his product. Under certain conditions on price elasticities and cost fractions, we find a unique optimal revenue share for all products. Surprisingly, it is optimal for the retailer not to charge any storage fee in many situations even if she is allowed to do so. …
