Japanese Society and Culture
This study aims to identify the association between public service motivation (PSM), job satisfaction, and other factors using ordinary least squares and quantile regression analyses. The following findings were clarified by analysing survey data from approximately 1,600 special ward employees. Job satisfaction, affective organisational commitment, and job performance are positively associated with PSM. Second, job stress and PSM are negatively associated with PSM. Third, there is a stable positive association between affective organisational commitment and PSM regardless of whether affective organisational commitment is high or low. Fourth, as job satisfaction and job performance increased, the positive association between job satisfaction, …

Applications And Countermeasures Of Researcher Identifier, Yang Han, Jie Peng, Dong Li, Leipo Jia
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
As the medium for identifying the academic identity of researchers and associating scientific research elements, researcher identifier plays an important role in efficiently managing research data, establishing mechanisms for updating scientific data, and constructing knowledge maps of multi-source academic information. Using a combination of literature research and website research, this study analyzed the application status and deficiencies of researcher identifier to provide theoretical guidance for the construction of China’s researcher identifier system. With the development and increasing dominance of international mainstream researcher identifiers, China has gradually recognized the importance of constructing independently controllable researcher identifier. In the process of constructing …
Employing Individuals With Disabilities And Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Role Of Employer Openness And Employee Attitudes, Claude B. Kershner Iv, George M. Marakas
Employing Individuals With Disabilities And Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Role Of Employer Openness And Employee Attitudes, Claude B. Kershner Iv, George M. Marakas
Engaged Management ReView
When employers hire people with disabilities, collective behavioral change occurs in organizations. Specifically, attitudes toward people with disabilities improve through professional interventions and encourage organizational citizenship behavior. Previous studies have demonstrated the economic and client-focused effect of hiring people with disabilities, resulting in a tested model of competitive, integrated employment. In this study, we find that a performance-based behavioral change occurs in non-disabled employees when organizations employ best practices in relation to people with disabilities in the workplace. We use intergroup contact theory and social exchange theory to develop a model and a corresponding survey instrument that measures how several …

Optimizing Training To Effectively Mitigate The Human Risk Of Cyberattacks: A Critically Appraised Topic, Christine Davis
Engaged Management ReView
Employees are an organization’s greatest defense against cyberattacks; however, traditional cybersecurity training falls short of developing this protection. Failing to properly train employees to prevent a cyberattack becomes a vulnerability that attackers exploit. Can organizations optimize employee cybersecurity training to effectively mitigate the human-related risks of cyberattacks? Findings indicate that optimized cybersecurity training can indeed mitigate this risk. In this topic paper, the author reviewed the research to recommend strategies for optimizing such training, highlighting the importance of embracing cybersecurity company-wide, at all levels. Furthermore, the lessons in the training must be reiterated, updated, and reinforced—thus promoting a culture of …
Twenty Years Of The Application Of Rooney Rule And Diversity Practices In The Nfl Workplace, David M. Savino
Twenty Years Of The Application Of Rooney Rule And Diversity Practices In The Nfl Workplace, David M. Savino
Journal of the North American Management Society
While the inception of the Rooney Rule has been generally applauded in its intention, the results achieved have been less than noteworthy. In the 20 years since its inception and application in team searches for head coaches of the National Football League, the outcome may be a true sign of the difficulty associated with creating fair and equitable job opportunities in any workplace. Also, there has been a long-standing and deeply entrenched system that has been in place, especially in the sports world, to ensure little change in the overall system. This has not only been true for the sports …

Strong cultures help identify direction and philosophy and provide confidence in how to proceed to pursue innovative ideas and solve problems. Since 2020, the core value and the strength of many organizational cultures have been tested as a result of the increased reliance on working remotely and the adoption of a hybrid model of business operations not previously utilized to a great degree. While many survived …

This paper provides the groundwork for educators in business schools to reconsider the conventional approach to teaching qualitative methods. It draws on my personal and professional experience as a key resource to shape its examination of doctoral education in conducting qualitative research. The paper offers points of reflection on the struggle students may face in conducting rigorous qualitative research without appropriately understanding the influence of self with previous experience, preconceived ideas, …
The Ethical Safeguards Within Servant Leadership, Jae Webb
The Ethical Safeguards Within Servant Leadership, Jae Webb
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
Many of the prevailing strategies to address corporate misconduct are focused on an increase in regulation, greater oversight, and stricter punishments for offenders. Other strategies, often found in business schools, focus on developing cognitive moral reasoning skills. Both of these theories, by their nature, underestimate the power of context in ethical decision-making, as well as the importance of affirmative efforts to develop moral character. The following article explicates elements of servant-leadership theory that serve as ethical safeguards regarding a person’s ability to make ethical decisions, as well as aiding in the formation of contexts and cultures that facilitate ethical decision-making. …

Root Cause Analysis For Troop Construction Schedule Delays And Cost Overruns, Richard H. Wilkens
Root Cause Analysis For Troop Construction Schedule Delays And Cost Overruns, Richard H. Wilkens
Theses and Dissertations
Troop construction can be an effective tool when a project is simple enough to execute projects in a timely and cost effective manner. However, underlying variables plague these projects causing them to miss anticipated deadlines which in return could make them more costly. Significant variables that convey impact to cost and schedule are Equipment Operating Issues, Edits During Construction, Design Flaws, Lack of Communication, Poor User Coordination, Improper Documentation, Inaccurate Submittals, Low Quality Control, and Lack of Experience. Project engineers and project managers must provide effective continuity as well as improve their own competence and situational awareness to effectively mitigate …

Measuring The Menu, Not The Food: “Psychometric” Data May Instead Measure “Lingometrics” (And Miss Its Greatest Potential), Jan Ketil Arnulf, Ulf Henning Olsson, Kim Nimon
Human Resource Development Faculty Publications and Presentations
This is a review of a range of empirical studies that use digital text algorithms to predict and model response patterns from humans to Likert-scale items, using texts only as inputs. The studies show that statistics used in construct validation is predictable on sample and individual levels, that this happens across languages and cultures, and that the relationship between variables are often semantic instead of empirical. That is, the relationships among variables are given a priori and evidently computable as such. We explain this by replacing the idea of “nomological networks” with “semantic networks” to designate computable relationships between abstract …

An Integer Programming Model To Optimize Us Army Deployment Cycle And Maximize Unit Availability, Grant R. Engel
Theses and Dissertations
The goal of this paper is to determine an optimal cycle length, in months, that minimizes costs and maximizes availability for deploying units in the United States (US) Army. The US Army must be cost efficient while maintaining the flexibility required to adapt to dynamic mission demand. The current practice is to deploy units for a length between the range of 6 to 12 months; however, this varies from unit to unit and the best policy is not clear. We address these issues by forming a mathematical programming model with unique characteristics that distinguish it from others of similar design. …
