Craving Alcohol, James Peter Murphy

Conference papers

Individuals involved in the treatment of alcoholism for decades have argued that men and women crave alcohol essentially because they enjoy the effect it offers. This effect is so mysterious that, while adults will confess that these cravings are potentially dangerous to their health and wellbeing, during consumption their reasoning and belief of these facts will alternate between the true and the false. In essence these individuals' alcohol cravings life actually seems to them the only normal life. An Exploration Of The Role Of Food Tourism In Sustaining Cultural Authenticity In Ireland, Lisa O'Riordan, Dr. Aisling Ward Jan 2014

An Exploration Of The Role Of Food Tourism In Sustaining Cultural Authenticity In Ireland, Lisa O'Riordan, Dr. Aisling Ward

Irish Business Journal

Authenticity is often a motivating factor for tourists. In many situations what occurs, however, is staged authenticity. Food is one of the few entities left that indicates true cultural authenticity. Food can bridge the gap between tourists and their understanding of and involvement in a place. Native cultures that are struggling to preserve their heritage and ways of life from globalising forces can use food as a defensive mechanism. This paper is part of a wider postgraduate study on food tourism and culture so will focus on the research completed to date, mainly the literature reviewed as well as initial …

Perceived Similarity Of Other Customers On Service Experience, Lisa Wan, Shing Chung, Patrick Poon, Maggie Chu Jan 2014

Perceived Similarity Of Other Customers On Service Experience, Lisa Wan, Shing Chung, Patrick Poon, Maggie Chu

Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies Working Paper Series

This study aims to examine how a mere appearance of other similar customers will influence the perceived service quality of a potential customer. This research involves two experimental studies. Findings shows that if potential customers perceive other customers to be similar (vs. dissimilar) in a hospitality setting with regard to age, they will have more favorable perceptions toward the service quality and have a higher purchase intention. However, the positive impact of the similarity in age cohort can override the negative impact of dissimilarity in ethnicity on one's perceived service quality and purchase intentions. The results provide implications for hospitality …

Antecedents And Consequences Of Customer Experience In Beverage Establishments, Milos Bujisic Jan 2014

Antecedents And Consequences Of Customer Experience In Beverage Establishments, Milos Bujisic

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It is estimated that there are approximately 42,000 beverage establishments in the U.S. whose annual revenue surpasses $20 billion (First Research, 2014). To facilitate discussion of beverage establishments, it is essential to recognize beverage establishments as businesses whose majority of sales come from alcoholic drinks (Moss, 2010a). In this research, beverage establishments are divided into beverage-only bars, bar/entertainment combinations, and food and beverage combinations. Even though they are a well-established industry, beverage establishments have received little academic attention (Moss, 2010b). For example, previous studies have given little attention to the development of the model that examines the relationships between quality …

The sample analyzed is a set of commercial and tribal casinos in eight Midwestern states.
