JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 21, 2020) – “The River and the Wall,” an award-winning documentary by conservation filmmaker Ben Masters, will be screened at East Tennessee State University on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center’s Martha Street Culp Auditorium.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 20, 2020) – “Three Emerging Writers” – poets J. Scott Brownlee, Kristin Robertson and Matthew Wimberley – will visit East Tennessee State University on Monday, March 2, to work with university students and to give a free public poetry reading.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 19, 2020) – Dr. Megan Quinn and Dr. Shimin Zheng, associate professors in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, have been awarded a Research Development Committee Major Grant for a pilot study to assess how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect a patient’s readiness to adhere to HIV treatment.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 19, 2020) – For the first time ever, East Tennessee State University’s George L. Carter Railroad Museum will hold its monthly Heritage Day about America’s railroading industry on Saturday Feb. 29, leap day.
During this free event, several of the Heritage Day layouts will focus on the simpler days of American railroads. Born Clara van Thijin in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Oct. 19, 1940, Dubois became a Holocaust child survivor in July 1942, when her parents were deported to Auschwitz. She was adopted and raised by a Dutch foster family, first in the Netherlands and then in the United States, without fully being told about her biological family and true identity.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 11, 2020) – The East Tennessee State University Center for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment, established in 2016, began 2020 with a new name: the ETSU Addiction Science Center (ASC).
The change is part of a concerted effort to keep pace with the evolving nature of the opioid crisis, whereby heroin and fentanyl are now the leading cause of unintentional overdose death in the U.S. – not prescribed pain medications.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 10, 2020) – A faculty member at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy has received a grant to aid in her research of the transdermal naloxone treatment of opioid addiction, potentially saving more lives from overdose by making the life-saving drug easier to administer and require less doses.
