Utah State University (USU) dedicates substantial resources to support student transition to higher education. The Passport Experience cuts across all university domains to support early student participation in curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities. Students are invited to attend a variety of events, when milestones are reached, students are rewarded. Persistence is a primary objective of the Passport Experience. The Passport Experience helps students develop an increased awareness of campus events, broad their engagement in the university experience, and become more involved in the University community. SNEEDVILLE (Sept. 14, 2020) – East Tennessee State University’s Hancock County School-Based Health Centers are celebrating 25 years of serving the Hancock County/Sneedville community.

Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) is a valued part of the USU community It connects students with leadership and philanthropic opportunities throughout their time at university. Many students cite their time spent associated with FSL as one of the biggest contributing factors of their university experience. METHODS: Student’s membership in a FSL is recorded each semester on rosters. These rosters were used in identifying which students participated in FSL. Students were compared using prediction-based propensity score matching. Students who participated in FSL were matched with non-participating students based on their persistence predication and their propensity to participate. FINDINGS: Students were …

Norman serves as the lead nurse practitioner and Smith is the center manager at ETSU’s University Health Center.

JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 8, 2020) – For two decades Dr. Ted Olson, a professor in East Tennessee State University’s Department of Appalachian Studies, has been at the vanguard of efforts to study and publicly celebrate the historic recordings popularly known as the Bristol Sessions, which were conducted by influential Victor Records producer Ralph Peer.
Widely characterized as a seminal event from the early years of commercial recording, the Bristol Sessions actually involved two distinct sets of recording sessions, the first occurring in late July and early August 1927 and the second in late October and early November 1928.

JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 4, 2020) – “Tuesday Talks,” a new series of conversations on “hot-button” issues, will begin Sept. 8 for East Tennessee State University students, faculty and staff and community members.

JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 3, 2020) – The George L. Carter Railroad Museum has reopened to the public under specific health guidelines instituted by East Tennessee State University.
The museum, located in the Campus Center Building, is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All visitors are required to wear masks while on the ETSU campus and in its buildings, including the railroad museum. Directional signage is posted throughout the museum to promote physical distancing and for safe traffic flow inside the galleries and corridors. All frequently touched surfaces are routinely disinfected for added safety.

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship
Research consultations continue to be a valuable service offered by academic libraries for students who are able to visit the library, however, most students enrolled in online degree programs or considering enrollment have limited access to campus services. To address this, the authors designed and tested a virtual reference consultation service in their library for distance learners and graduate students. This article outlines a practical approach for designing and initiating a virtual research consultation service pilot, providing equitable access to library services and a positive user experience for distance learners.
