As the overrepresentation of Black male collegiate athletes (BMCA) increases in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (DI) revenue-generating sports, coaches and athletic staff continue to overemphasize sport performance, while graduation rates for BMCA remain persistently lower than their peers and research continues to document transition out of sport concerns for this population. Proposing a multi-level approach, we explore the collegiate athletic factors that influence the holistic identity development of DI revenue generating BMCA at historically White institutions (HWIs) leading to difficulty transitioning out of sport. JOHNSON CITY (March 9, 2021) – More than 11,800 East Tennessee State University students are being notified this week they will be receiving financial assistance from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II). Approximately $5.5 million in HEERF II funding is being dispersed to eligible ETSU students.
The funding from the U.S. Department of Education is made possible through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 that was approved last December in response to ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Upward Bound is one of seven federally funded TRIO programs at ETSU targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities. JOHNSON CITY (March 3, 2021) – East Tennessee State University will offer a minor in Nutrition beginning fall 2021 in order to meet a growing demand in the health care workforce and among its students.
The new minor will be housed in the ETSU College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences (CCRHS). To complete the minor, students will take 18 credit hours with courses addressing topics such as community nutrition, nutrition in sports and health, communication in nutrition, and others.

The explosion of data coupled with firms’ desire to utilize it is driving rapid changes in the desired skillset for accounting and assurance professionals. Educational institutions are considering how to catch up to these requirements, while accreditors are also modifying standards to reflect changes in desired skillsets. We present evidence from two institutions’ efforts to update their courses to address contemporary skill requirements, accompanied by discussion from a Big 4 professional. We find that despite significant differences between the two institutions and their approaches, similar challenges were encountered, and similar feedback was obtained from students. A look back at the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic shows the many ways that East Tennessee State University prioritized the health and safety of the campus community while continuing to serve its students and the Appalachian Highlands community.
