JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2021) – Ballad Health announced it has committed a $10 million investment to create the Appalachian Highlands Center for Nursing Advancement at East Tennessee State University.  



The Center will be dedicated to bringing nursing, business, liberal arts, education and other academic and support programs together to increase the pipeline of opportunity and augment the supply of nurses and nursing support in the Appalachian Highlands.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2021) – Violinist, educator and composer Christian Howes will perform in a Guest Artist Recital at East Tennessee State University on Friday, Oct. 29.

His performance, sponsored by the ETSU Department of Music, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Powell Recital Hall of the Martin Center for the Arts.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2021)—A team of student pharmacists at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy recently demonstrated state and national success in an academic competition that included over 100 other pharmacy school teams across the country.

Gatton College of Pharmacy’s team competed in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s (ACCP) Clinical Pharmacy Challenge, a “quiz bowl” format held virtually this year due to the pandemic, and they progressed to among the top eight teams in the nation, the only team in Tennessee to advance to the top 8. JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 19, 2021) – East Tennessee State University’s Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will perform in concert on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall of the Martin Center for the Arts.

The free public concert is the first of the fall 2021 semester for the ETSU Bands.

(Oct. 15, 2021) – The internationally renowned British vocal ensemble VOCES8 will perform a program juxtaposing Renaissance music with jazz and pop at East Tennessee State University in the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall of the Martin Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

“Approximately one in eight women will face breast cancer in their lifetime. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has affected routine screenings and reconstruction opportunities for many patients,” said Dr. Alicia Billington, an ETSU Health plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has helped lead the awareness efforts. “We are hoping our efforts to promote awareness encourage patients to get their screening imaging and exams.”

An entrepreneurial philanthropist who wanted to help students “get on the field” of owning and operating their own businesses provided funding to name a school of business in the Midwest. He focused on the concept of working with a franchisor to help locate opportunities to get young “franchisepreneurs” started. The University would train the students on how to operate a small business, and the franchisor would help the university locate an underperforming franchise and sell the franchise to a student at a relatively low price.
