JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2022) – Melissa Magno’s role as a geologist at Colliers Engineering & Design is diverse. She observes and samples drilling operations. She crafts maps, figures and reports based on her interpretations of a range of data.
Magno, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in geology from East Tennessee State University in 2018, landed her current role at the Charlotte, North Carolina based-firm after working as both a consultant and field technician.
The education she received at ETSU helped prepare her for the professional world.

All meetings will be conducted in person at the D.P. Culp Student Center, East Tennessee Room.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2022) – East Tennessee State University student Justin Kearley was elected as a 2022 student representative to the Rural Health Congress, the National Rural Health Association’s (NRHA) policy-making body.
Kearley, of Asheville, North Carolina, is a Master of Public Health candidate with a concentration in epidemiology.
The Rural Health Congress determines the association's positions on public policy through a series of policy briefs and issue papers. In his new role, Kearley will represent students in the development of policy, attend regular meetings and conferences and advocate on behalf of rural health.

JOHNSON CITY – (February 3, 2022) The recent Broadway hit “Straight White Men” will make its regional premiere Feb. 17-20 at East Tennessee State University’s Martin Center for the Arts. Presented by the ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance, the show will be performed Feb. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Bert C Bach Theatre.

(Feb. 2, 2022) – The Department of Media and Communication at East Tennessee State University, in conjunction with Wallace Theater and Action VFX, will host a film competition from Friday, March 4 to Sunday, March 6. The competition will take place at Wallace Theatre, located at 215 East Main Street in Johnson City.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2022) – Ben Arnold, an East Tennessee State University Innovation Lab member, recently finalized the purchase of Cove Ridge Marina and Campground in Butler, Tennessee.
In August of 2021 his group, Cove Ridge Holdings, LLC, finalized the purchase of Cove Ridge Marina and Campground located on Watauga Lake. Arnold said their plans for 2022 include adding pontoon and kayak rentals, adding additional covered slips, hosting a variety of events including live music, food trucks, wine and beer tastings, and much more.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Registration for Summer Session classes will soon begin at East Tennessee State University, allowing students to stay on track or complete goals ahead of schedule during their academic journey to graduation.
Current ETSU students can register through Goldlink for the courses they want to take. Registration begins April 4, 2022. Summer Session has six sessions from which to choose from, allowing students to take advantage of convenient options to complete up to 18 credits. Additionally, registration for classes continues up until the day before the course is scheduled to begin.

(Feb. 2022) – Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Washington County’s Sulphur Springs Elementary School have learned about both gardening and nutrition in the fall of 2021 through a joint effort of East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health and UT Extension Washington County.

This raised garden bed with mature greens at Sulphur Springs School is part of the "Learn, Grow, Eat and Go" program that not only teaches young students about planting, tending and harvesting plants, but also about food preparation and eating a balanced diet.

This chapter reports on the systematic approach taken by the Singapore Management University (SMU) to use students’ course work to measure student outcomes beyond disciplinary attainment, culminating in feedback to help students grow in a spectrum of personal competencies such as critical thinking or collaboration. An action research study was conducted to analyse a proposed institution-wide assessment and feedback system that measures student attainment on a set of university-level Graduate Learning Outcomes and presents this information to students as feedback for their learning.
