(Johnson City) East Tennessee State University’s Dr. Robert Pattie has won an impressive grant ultimately aimed at enhancing humanity’s basic understanding of the universe. 

The $320,000 grant, awarded by the National Science Foundation, will allow Pattie and several students in the university’s Department of Physics and Astronomy to travel to Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.

While she is currently working on her master’s degree in clinical mental health, the story of her passion traces its beginning to nearly a decade ago. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Faculty in East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health and College of Business and Technology helped inform discussions leading to the recent passage of SB 2219/HB 2705 in the Tennessee legislature.

This bill, which took effect July 1 after receiving Gov. Bill Lee’s signature on June 1, removes preemption of tobacco regulation in the state and exemption of age-restricted venues, such as bars, from smoke-free policy. Removal of preemption allows local governments to regulate the use of smoking and vapor products in age-restricted venues that are not retail tobacco stores. Previous law allowed local …

On Saturday, June 25, the free-entry George L. Carter Railroad Museum on the campus of East Tennessee State University will showcase the railroads that once crisscrossed the Midwest. With an industrial and agricultural base, the action was non-stop and numerous railroads were the primary way to reach cities from smaller towns and areas before the highway system came into being.

Investigating The Impact On Student Engagement From Converting Face-To-Face Classes To Online In Response To Covid-19, Anita Whiting

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Paper investigates the impact on student engagement from converting traditional face-to-face classes to online in response to Covid-19. In particular, this study investigated the impact of conversion to online on four different types of student engagement: (1) participation engagement, (2) emotional engagement, (3) skill engagement, and (4) performance engagement. Survey data were collected from 160 business students who had their face-to-face classes converted to online due to Covid-19. Results of study show that all four types of student engagement significantly declined when classes were converted to online. Participation engagement declined the most while performance engagement declined the least. Non-traditional students …

The Tennessee Board of Regents has awarded the college nearly $50,000 to fund the PEER-E2 program for another year.

PEER-E2, which stands for Promoting Engagement, Excellence, and Retention for English as a Second Language Students, began in September 2020 under Dr. Michele Williams. The 2022-2023 PEER-E2 program will consist of six main interventions:

• Specialized ESL pharmacy tutors
• A weekly language lab facilitated by an ESL instructor
• A peer support group
• Culture and language exchange events

On a normal day of rotations, I was able to help count prescriptions, answer phones, assist the pharmacist and technicians in daily task, and administer immunizations to patients. The Relationship Between Work-Life Balance, Job Satisfaction, Age, And Gender, Diana Fernandez, Suzanne Lebin

The Journal of Advancing Education Practice

This paper explored the relationship between job satisfaction and the perception of work-life balance using a dataset (n = 856) from The Workplace Equity Survey (Spilka, et al., 2020). We also investigated the perceptions of work-life balance between age groups and gender groups. Chi-square tests revealed significant correlations in perceptions of work-life balance based on sentiments of job satisfaction. ANOVAs were conducted to investigate the perceptions of work-life balance between different age groups and gender groups. Significant differences were observed between different age groups, but not between the different gender groups. Results of the study support the notion that perceptions …
