The Relationship Between Financial Literacy, Financial Status, And Academic Success In College Students, Brian Douglas Brausch
The Relationship Between Financial Literacy, Financial Status, And Academic Success In College Students, Brian Douglas Brausch
Dissertations
As the cost of college continues to rise, an increasing number of students are relying on loans and credit cards to fund their postsecondary education. In an effort to curb student debt and increase retention and graduation rates, many universities have begun to offer financial literacy initiatives to stimulate financial knowledge and promote positive money management behaviors.
This study examines the relationship between a for-credit personal financial literacy course and student academic success and economic status. Students who took a personal finance course during their first or second year of college are compared to a random sampling of students who …

Corporate Sponsorship And University Campuses: Determining The Effectiveness Of University Sponsorship Efforts At Pittsburg State University, Michaela Joines, Troy Comeau
Paper Presentations
A multi-phase study was completed to determine the effectiveness of corporate sponsorship efforts at Pittsburg State University. Pittsburg State engages in corporate sponsorship to partner with local and national companies, seeking to benefit both the university and its partners. The study sought to find factors that improve the effectiveness of such sponsorship efforts as determined by stakeholders’ ability to recall sponsors, differences in attitudes toward national sponsors versus local, and how brand attachment to the university or sponsoring brands effects their perception of the sponsorship alliance. Phase 1 included interviews with stakeholder groups (students, faculty/staff, alumni, and community members) and …
Can Students Studying Abroad Use Forward Exchange Rates As A Tool For Better Budgeting Their Semesters?, Emalee Dunbar
Can Students Studying Abroad Use Forward Exchange Rates As A Tool For Better Budgeting Their Semesters?, Emalee Dunbar
Honors Projects in Finance
Traveling abroad requires an immense amount of planning and attention to detail. Budgeting is a difficult task in one’s own country, but when planning across borders, that task becomes even greater. Differences in exchange rates and buying power have the potential to adversely affect the budget set ahead of time, placing more stress on the traveler. Financial tools available in the foreign exchange market, if used strategically, may provide a reliable method to budgeting travel abroad as accurately as possible. There are many individuals, students especially, that plan on traveling or studying abroad yet are on tight budgets. Having a …

Winning On And Off The Court: An Interpretive Case Study Of A Leader’S Effectual Power And Influence, Eugene Smith
Dissertations
The purpose of this research is to study the leadership profile of a leader’s effectual power and influence. A qualitative research design is preferred to capture rich, thick personal responses from the interview participants. Semi-structured interviews were utilized with open-ended questions, which enabled the respondents to provide unique insights and reflections of their direct and indirect experiences with the research subject. Additionally, document inquiry and direct observations were used and, as an outcome, triangulation was achieved.
Effective use of power is studied in the context of a leader’s ability to influence others to induce a desired outcome. The subject’s influence …

Financial Literacy In South Carolina, Connor Pestovich, Matthew Travis
Financial Literacy In South Carolina, Connor Pestovich, Matthew Travis
Senior Theses
Being wise with finances is a skill that many people tend to overlook as important. There are days when an individual can avoid using certain subjects learned in high school, but very rarely, if ever, is there a day when topics of finance are not used. This could be anything from purchasing food, driving to work, working on a computer, or receiving a paycheck. While most would agree that the ability to handle money wisely is very important, these concepts do not have a high priority of being taught in high schools in South Carolina. More than that, many parents …

“What About Us?” Exploring What It Means To Be A Management Educator With Asperger’S Syndrome, Sarah Wright, Gundars Kaupins
Management Faculty Publications and Presentations
Very little is known on the subject of instructors with Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), and the available information pales in comparison to the enormous literature studying students with AS. In this article, Professor Gundy Kaupins shares his thoughts and experiences related to the issues educators with AS face and offers an alternative lens to see the advantages that having AS can bring to the management education classroom. Professor Kaupins also offers ideas for behavioral solutions and considerations for future research. We finish with a commentary on the individual and institutional issues pertaining to disclosure of ‘differences’ and invisible disability in the …
