Implementing The Flipped Classroom In An Undergraduate Corporate Finance Course, Jayendra S. Gokhale

This study analyzes flipped mode of instruction in Corporate Finance. In the current environment, with many students in quarantine and greater emphasis on self-study, it is even more relevant to understand how students understand and retain concepts derived from online environment. In this study, performance of students in flipped mode is compared with the performance in traditional lecture-style. In flipped class, students watched a brief video-lecture, took an online assessment quiz prior to attending an interactive discussion-based class session, unlike the traditional lecture style. JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 11, 2020) – The Documents/Law/Maps Department of the Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University has partnered with the Archives of Appalachia to curate a digital exhibit for Veterans Day.

Through this effort, six of the Library’s World War II Newsmaps, along with local materials that correspond to the dates on the maps, have been digitized and made available for public view.

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 9, 2020) – A study by Dr. Martin Olsen of ETSU Health OB/GYN reveals new information about the prevention of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), which occurs when infants go through withdrawal from an addictive drug they were exposed to in the womb.

Olsen’s study, published in the November 2020 issue of the Southern Medical Journal, reviewed the charts of 21 pregnant patients who were enrolled in an outpatient buprenorphine medication-assisted therapy (MAT) tapering program at ETSU Health.

Decision-making is informed in a complex environment of internal and external influences. This study aimed to measure the correlation between the scientific research success factors, i.e. the mastery of the scientific research competencies, subjective and objective motivations to scientific research, and the availability of the scientific research infrastructure, and the scientific research productivity, i.e., publications, books, translated books, grants, citations, and awards received of the faculty of the Arab American University in Palestine. JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 3, 2020) – Dr. Erik Petersen, assistant professor in East Tennessee State University College of Public Health’s Department of Health Sciences, has received $300,000 to study Salmonella sensing-based antibacterials for use in poultry. 

The award is a collaborative bi-national grant with Dr. Erez Mills from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Rehovot, Israel.

“Currently, among the food-borne zoonoses, or diseases that are spread between animals and people, Salmonellosis has become a frequent major public health concern,” Petersen said.

A second-year student in ETSU’s Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Program, Drew was selected to be the Student State Officer for the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA), which has more than 13,000 members.

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 2, 2020) – Dr. Ronald Hamdy, a physician at ETSU Health and professor at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, has announced the start of patient recruitment for the LUCIDITY study (NCT03446001), a new clinical research study to evaluate an investigational drug in people who are experiencing memory loss, or have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI or MCI-AD), Probable/Early Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or Mild-Moderate AD.

Surveillance is key to the lifesaving capability of lifeguards. Experienced personnel consistently display enhanced hazard detection capabilities compared to less experienced counterparts. However, the mechanisms which underpin this effect and the time it takes to develop these skills are not understood. We hypothesized that, after one season of experience, the number of hazards detected by, and eye movements of, less experienced lifeguards (LEL) would more closely approximate experienced lifeguards (EL).
