(Feb. 2022) – Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Washington County’s Sulphur Springs Elementary School have learned about both gardening and nutrition in the fall of 2021 through a joint effort of East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health and UT Extension Washington County.
'Garden in a Box'
This raised garden bed with mature greens at Sulphur Springs School is part of the "Learn, Grow, Eat and Go" program that not only teaches young students about planting, tending and harvesting plants, but also about food preparation and eating a balanced diet.

This chapter reports on the systematic approach taken by the Singapore Management University (SMU) to use students’ course work to measure student outcomes beyond disciplinary attainment, culminating in feedback to help students grow in a spectrum of personal competencies such as critical thinking or collaboration. An action research study was conducted to analyse a proposed institution-wide assessment and feedback system that measures student attainment on a set of university-level Graduate Learning Outcomes and presents this information to students as feedback for their learning. Context: Although many medical schools seek to improve diversity, they grapple with the challenge of how to weight the scores of different admission methods to achieve a balance between obtaining high predictiveness and ensuring diversity in the selected student pool. Yet, in large-scale employment settings, substantial progress has been made on this front: Pareto-optimization has been introduced as an elegant statistical tool to assist decision makers in determining the weights assigned to selection methods in advance (before the selection has taken place) so that a selection system is designed to achieve an optimal balance as reflected by the trade-off that …

JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 31, 2022) – East Tennessee State University’s College of Nursing recently received a $569,025 grant that will allow the ETSU Health Community Health Centers to increase and improve services at clinics in Hancock County and Johnson City.
The Health Resources & Services Administration grant is part of the American Rescue Plan funding.

How To Attract The Library Visitors? The Role Of Csr At The Library, Library Image, Customer Value, And Loyalty To The Library: Evidence From Indonesia, Sri Hartini, Masmira Kurniawati, Jovi Sulistiawan, Muhammad Ihwanudin

This study focuses on the impact of CSR on the library’s performance in collaboration with CSR programs. Using the purposive sampling method, the sample was 350 library service users in Indonesia. Data was collected through a Google Form questionnaire distributed on social media. SEM-PLS was used to analyze five hypotheses, which were accepted. This study indicates that CSR in the library is significantly positively related to library image, customer value, and loyalty. In addition, library image and customer value are positively related to library visitor loyalty. Currently, the social responsibility literature is only limited to the customer perspective, and not …

Purpose: The purpose of the work is to develop a measuring complex for monitoring of athletes’ speed-strength preparedness.
Methods: The following research methods were used in this work: educational literature analysis, pedagogical testing, pedagogical observation, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics.
Results: The necessity of taking into account the nature of the relationship between the level of physical, particular, speed-strength preparedness and dynamometric measuring device indicators. Despite expert consensus and evidence-based preventative strategies against drowning, limited formal study exists on translating recommendations into practical and effective interventions. This paper describes the design of an education-based drowning prevention intervention and reports results from a pilot evaluation of the program’s effect on self-reported water-safe behaviors, attitudes, self-efficacy, and knowledge. Parents and caregivers attending children’s swim lessons in July and August 2018 participated in a brief water-safety education program. A pre-post-test design evaluated "Theory of Planned Behavior" indicators to assess for changes. The foundation of an athlete’s development is formed through their early developmental experiences. Thus, in this study we explored the early sport and play experiences of elite New Zealand hockey players from rural and regional communities. In our examination of how smaller communities contribute to the development of New Zealand’s top athletes, this research has a particular focus on the athletes’ early sport and play experiences and the influence of people around them during their growth and development.
