Germany has seen a recent upsurge in publications proclaiming that feminism is again an urgent matter for a new generation of women. Faced with the reactionary demography debate and the hegemony of second-wave feminism, young writers, musicians, journalists, and critics call for new models of feminism relevant to women today. As one of these viable models, popfeminism draws on dominant trends in mass culture, on pop’s forty-year history as a cultural prefix in Germany, and on traditional feminism in order to create a new, ostensibly apolitical, feminist subculture based in self-stylization and individual autonomy. This paper analyzes the influence of postmodernism in Paloma Díaz-Mas's feminist approach through two short stories, "The World According to Valdés," and "In Search of a Portrait." The political situation after Franco's death embraced democracy which allowed writers to pay more attention to intellectual concerns. Women writers steered the radical positions of the 1970s toward a more philosophical and intellectual analysis of reality and artistic expression during the eighties. In these two short stories, Díaz-Mas addresses women's issues by questioning the scope of modernist and humanist views. In the last decade, poetry written by women in Spain experienced a "boom," as one close observer of the scene has noted, with the result that young women poets on the Peninsula have begun to receive the attention they merit. It is therefore an opportune moment to turn our critical attention toward the poetry written by women earlier in the twentieth century.

Angela Figuera (1902-1984) and Francisca Aguirre (b. 1930), two "uncanonized" mid-twentieth century Spanish poets, are presented here as challenging the androcentric culture of their time. Figuera critiques the male-dominated poetic canon as she develops a gynocentric poetics; poems …
