Toporadio: Mapping Research On Spanish-Languageradio In The United States, Eric Silberberg

This article analyzes the construction of TopoRadio (toporadio.org), an interactive map that showcases publications and archives about Spanish-language radio in the U.S. The map aims to promote a more inclusive and comprehensive representation of U.S. radio history by improving the visibility of contributions from Latinx broadcasters. The article addresses how map-making historically suppressed Spanish-language radio programs and proposes using critical cartography as a framework for mapping back this history. The technical elements of TopoRadio, including publication selection criteria, metadata design, geocoding process, and the appraisal of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, are described to provide scholars with a reproducible method …

Fins i tot en aquests temps d’ara, amb autopistes i autovies i mapes al mòbil que no t’abandonen pràcticament mai, arribar als territoris tribals no és tan fàcil. Aterres a l’aeroport de Palma i agafes una de les autopistes construïdes no fa tants d’anys per un govern autonòmic voraç de projectes estrella, i enfiles cap al sud-est de l’illa. Passes per camps esqueixats per l’asfalt, amb restes de garrofers, ametllers i algun petit pinar, i segueixes els quatre carrils, un ample voral i fins i tot una carretera de servei adjacent.

Resumen: Este artículo analiza el rol que tuvo la Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana (APRA), y especialmente la actividad cultural de los exiliados apristas, en la emergencia de un latinoamericanismo literario inspirado en los ideales de la Reforma Universitaria. Este artículo tiene por objeto contribuir al cuestionamiento de las políticas consensuales que presidieron el periodo transicional en España empleando para ello un ángulo de análisis glotopolítico. Para ello, toma como caso de estudio el metalenguaje desplegado en las celebraciones y efemérides transicionales relacionadas con las famosas glosas custodiadas en San Millán de la Cogolla. Este revela su apropiación nacionalista por parte de distintos poderes académicos, políticos e institucionales.

During the 17th century, literature turned the growing number of carriages into a burlesque topic. There were countless poems written about traffic jams, accidents, or the proper way to ask a friend for a carriage, often considered a symbol of status. Literary references to carriages can tell us many things about the men and women who used them, as well as about gender stereotypes. Women and carriages were understood as interconnected elements in Early Modern Spain; carriages appear as a means to conquer feminine muses as well as a recurrent satirical topic even for women poets. This article discusses a language-ideological debate surrounding Galician between two Spanish intellectuals – one Andalusian, Juan Valera, and one Galician, Manuel Murguía – who clashed on the desirability of the literary cultivation of the language. This encounter is framed as a language ideological debate and interpreted in the context of Spain’s late nineteenth-century politics of regional and national identity.

In this article, the author focuses on the conference of academies of the Spanish language that took place in Mexico in 1951 and analyzes the discourses on language as well as the views on the linguistic institutions that emerged in the course of the conference. The reasons for the Real Academia Española´s absence are addressed and so is the initiative by Mexico´s president Miguel Alemán.

El final de la Autobiografía (1914) de Alberto Gerchunoff (1883-1950) constituye uno de los puntos de partida más significativos a través de los cuales es posible analizar la temática de lo judío-argentino en el marco de su producción textual. El autor de Los gauchos judíos (1910) se sitúa allí frente al campo cultural de la Argentina del Centenario por medio de una serie de operaciones ideológicas que plantean una opción no sólo intelectual sino también específicamente literaria en la construcción de su proyecto creador.
