The Bad Boll Enterprise 1948-1954, Hans Spalteholz Jun 1955

The Bad Boll Enterprise 1948-1954, Hans Spalteholz

Bachelor of Divinity

The thesis, however, does not deal with all the conferences which have been lumped together at times under the title of “Bad Boll.” This thesis limits itself to the free theological conferences which were held in Germany by the Missouri Synod primarily with Lutherans not in fellowship with the Missouri Synod, i.e., the Landeskirchen, the regional churches.

Arabic Cognates In The Hebrew Text Of Isaiah Chapters 40-66, Ernest Hahn Jun 1955

Arabic Cognates In The Hebrew Text Of Isaiah Chapters 40-66, Ernest Hahn

Bachelor of Divinity

The last twenty-seven chapters of Isaiah have been selected since they form a unified section designated by many scholars the so-called Second Isaiah. This essay by no means intends to deal with all the Arabic cognates of Hebrew vocables in this division. It only seeks those cognates which may shed additional light on the Hebrew, especially the Hebrew words which are of rare occurrence in the Old Testament.

An Anaylsis And Comparison Of Eschatological Elements In The Hymns And Sermons Of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, James R. Luecke Jun 1955

An Anaylsis And Comparison Of Eschatological Elements In The Hymns And Sermons Of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, James R. Luecke

Bachelor of Divinity

It is in the wake of the proceedings of the Evanston Assembly of the World Council of Churches, and the re-examination of the Christian Hope in nearly every denomination of Christendom that this paper has been prepared. If it can truly be said that the actual living doctrine of a church is not properly that contained in its books only, but rather also that proclaimed from its pulpits and in the worship of its people, then this paper has value. It is the writer's belief that this study will suggest more nearly than any other study to date the actual …

Soren Kierkegaard's Critique Of Nineteenth Century Christiandom, Andrew M. Weyermann Jun 1955

Soren Kierkegaard's Critique Of Nineteenth Century Christiandom, Andrew M. Weyermann

Bachelor of Divinity

Every criticism and evaluation of Kierkegaard’s message is made on his grounds and on the basis of his works. The basic criteria for criticism is the criteria Kierkegaard employed to judge his age; namely, Christianity of the New Testament. As he saw it, his task was to define what it took.ma to be a Christian on the basis of the New Testament. The question is: to what extent does Kierkegaard in his attack actually base his criticism and corrective on the interpretation of Christianity in the New Testament? This question is posed with the recognition that Kierkegaard himself did not …

The Brief Study Of The Double Edition Of St Cyprian's De Unitate Ecclesiae, Herbert John Bouman Jun 1955

The Brief Study Of The Double Edition Of St Cyprian's De Unitate Ecclesiae, Herbert John Bouman

Bachelor of Divinity

This study is occasioned by the fact that the fourth chapter of the treatise “De Unitate Ecclesias,” written by the Bishop of Carthage, St. Cyprian, about 251 A.D., has come down in two quite different forms. One version apparently bases the unity of the Church in explicit terms on the primacy of Peter over and above the authority of other bishops, while the other version speaks in more cautious and general terms of Peter as a symbol of unity and power in which all bishops share equally.

John Wesley's Concept Of Santification, Robert Day Mcamis Jun 1955

John Wesley's Concept Of Santification, Robert Day Mcamis

Bachelor of Divinity

It is the purpose of this thesis to set forth clearly and objectively the concept of sanctification as it was believed and taught by John Wesley. Concept is used to indicate thought or opinion or view. Sanctification is used in the narrow sense to mean the conduct of the Christian life or holiness of living which follows justification. This concept of sanctification will be limited to its doctrinal content and characteristics with a survey of influences which affected it in one way or another. No attempt is made to trace the social and political implications of this teaching, except in …

The Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church Abd Fellowship With Other Lutherans In America, Andrew Brondos Jun 1955

The Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church Abd Fellowship With Other Lutherans In America, Andrew Brondos

Bachelor of Divinity

The SELC has related itself positively and negatively to other Lutheran churches in the United States. With some church bodies it has declared agreement and has affiliated with this group--the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America. With others, though there have been repeated attempts and invitations for union, the SELC has declined to affiliate. These positions, affiliations or non-affiliations are the points considered in this thesis. That is the scope of this thesis in content. In time the scope of this thesis includes the period from the organizing of the SELC in September of 1902 to the end of …

Thomas Aquinas' Concept Of The Word In His Contemporary On First Corinthians, Robert Scharlemann Jun 1955

Thomas Aquinas' Concept Of The Word In His Contemporary On First Corinthians, Robert Scharlemann

Bachelor of Divinity

Yet in the Thomistic synthesis, which has so strong an appeal as a philosophical structure, the Holy Scriptures are, according to Thomas, to be accorded the highest place. The question, therefore, a rises as to the exact manner in which the Scriptures take their place. Or, to put the question in a broader framework, in what manner does the Word of God, that is, the intelligible revelation of God, fit into the Thomistic structure? Is Thomas’ philosophical and theological structure really complete without that Word? That in a certain sense it is not complete without it is clear. Still in …

An Exploratory Study Of Anthroposophy, Everett Kalin Jun 1955

An Exploratory Study Of Anthroposophy, Everett Kalin

Bachelor of Divinity

As a way of' attaining knowledge and of developing man’s latent powers, Anthroposophy has some direct bearing on the Christian message. A Bachelor of Divinity thesis on the movement seems quite relevant, therefore. This thesis examines the life and teaching of Rudolf Steiner and the Anthroposophic movement which he started. It is an attempt to get a broad overview of Anthroposophy rather than concentrating on any one of its phases. It is an exploratory study of a preliminary nature, and in no measure does it try to be definitive on any part of the movement.

The Ethical Implications Of American Freemasonary, Andrew Simcak Jr Jun 1955

The Ethical Implications Of American Freemasonary, Andrew Simcak Jr

Bachelor of Divinity

This study endeavors to make visible the darkness permeating Masonry’s ethical teachings and to expose them what they really are—antichristian. The author attempts to lay bare the antichristian ethics of Freemasonry by comparing them with the Christian ethics. At the same time this study will, it is hoped, help the reader to discover and to realize the great gulf that separates the ethics of American Freemasonry from those of Christianity.
