Incarnation And The Lord's Supper In Luther, Norman Nagel Jun 1953

Incarnation And The Lord's Supper In Luther, Norman Nagel

Bachelor of Divinity

It will be the attempt of this paper to set forth some of the aspects of the parallel between God's dealing with us in Christ and Christ’s dealing with us in His Supper as grasped and expressed by Luther; especially in the controversies concerning the Lord's Supper in the 1520’s. The references are given, with a few Erlangener Ausgabe exceptions, from the Weimarer Ausgabe.

Kierkegaard's Critique Of Hegelian Idealism, Curtis E. Huber Jun 1953

Kierkegaard's Critique Of Hegelian Idealism, Curtis E. Huber

Bachelor of Divinity

The philosophical approach of SØren Kierkegaard has for many years been recognized as one of the outstanding attempts within the Lutheran Church to construct and formulate a Christian philosophy. For this reason alone, there is sufficient merit in almost any examination of his works. This study, however, proposes to examine not exclusively the work of Kierkegaard, but also the background of radical rationalism against; which .he and his theistic existential view was set.

The Chrisitian Attitude Toward Birth Control, Don C. Preisinger Jun 1953

The Chrisitian Attitude Toward Birth Control, Don C. Preisinger

Bachelor of Divinity

This thesis grew out of a paper presented to the Northern Alberta Pastors’ Conference or the Alberta-British Columbia District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The discussion showed that many of the pastors were poorly informed on the matter, and not a few based their views mainly upon tradition rather than on the clear Word of God. The writer of this paper thought, therefore, that a thesis on “The Christian Attitude Toward Birth Control" might fill a need and serve some purpose. This monograph presents only a bird's eye view, and in no way does the writer consider it …

The Concepts Of Sin And Grace In Hinduism, Theodore A. Michalk Jun 1953

The Concepts Of Sin And Grace In Hinduism, Theodore A. Michalk

Bachelor of Divinity

There are two concepts which are very fundamental in the Christian religion. These are the concepts of sin and grace. In the realm of Hindu thinking these concepts are only vaguely known. The author became aware or this state of affairs to some extent during his first term of mission service in India. This awareness awakened a desire to learn, if possible, what ideas arise in the mind or a Hindu thinker when he hears these terms used by a Christian speaker. The author feels that this investigation will help him to render better service to his Savior and to …

The Metaphysical Bases Of The Doctrine Of God In Aquinas And Augustine, Donald P. Meyer Jun 1953

The Metaphysical Bases Of The Doctrine Of God In Aquinas And Augustine, Donald P. Meyer

Bachelor of Divinity

Most basically this thesis is concerned with the problem of schism. It attempts to discover the nature of the opposition between two theologies. Schisms based on statements interpreted grammatically are tragically naïve, on personalities idolatrous. It is theology and the practical consequences of theology which alone can justify schism. And to discover the opposition between theologies requires an analysis of the basis of the statement of that theology.

Pre-Darwinian Interpretations Of The Concepts Of The Origin Of Life, Variation, And Survival Of Characters, Daniel Deblock Jr Jun 1953

Pre-Darwinian Interpretations Of The Concepts Of The Origin Of Life, Variation, And Survival Of Characters, Daniel Deblock Jr

Bachelor of Divinity

The individual developments of the concepts of the origin of life, variation; and survival of characters have given birth to many theories of organic evolution. Moreover, these concepts, as they were extant in the first half of the eighteenth century, greatly influenced Charles Darwin, whose “Origin of Species” greatly popularized and gave new life to evolutionistic speculations. Since Darwin’s day organic evolution has gained in popularity until the term has become a common word to countless numbers of people, and until millions of people believe in a theory of evolution in one form or another. Hence, it is important, that …

The Relation Of The Unio Mystica To The Corpus Doctrinae, Herbert Kretzmann Jun 1953

The Relation Of The Unio Mystica To The Corpus Doctrinae, Herbert Kretzmann

Bachelor of Divinity

It is the purpose of this paper to consider the relation or the unio mystica to the body of Christian doctrine. We will note first of all how so many well-meaning people have practiced all sorts of mystical exercises which they believed would obtain and strengthen their union with God. Many have believed and taught this doctrine as the basis of man's justification, saying that "faith justifies … as the germ of renewal, or as the means or ingrafting into the new humanity. Others seem to overlook this doctrine altogether, in spite of the fact that the unio mystica has …
